Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

Yep, this is a golden opportunity for UEFA to screw us over yet again. Playing behind closed doors is a big disadvantage to any home team. It ticks all the boxes for them to get rid of us from this season's CL, let alone the next 2.
I am sure they will stitch us up again. It would only be fair if both legs were the same (even with no fans). But to take away our home advantage makes a mockery of the competition. You can be sure Madrid and Tebas will be pushing hard for this behind the scenes.

All this talk of playing behind closed doors coupled with UEFA's well known corruption makes me think they'd try something like North Korea did with the World Cup, where they announced the North Korean team had won said World Cup cos there was no contradictory press. If UEFA announced a 0-3 win for Real, whatever the actual result, I can see the British press falling into line!

I am fully aware of my extreme paranoia.

An early symptom of corona virus apparently.. Aguero93 :20 will be round to sort you out shortly

You said fuck-all about that. All you posted was a conspiracy theory as to why Real Madrid want the game to be played behind closed doors.
i explained that, i still do question their timing with the facts at the time of posting, my opinion, but don't say that I wasn't the first to post here that what could happen in the future that things could change in a week, because i did. then you said i didn't, and then said the same thing i did.
If your opinion of their timing is different, based on what you suppose may happen in the future, that's fine.

I think the UK will be the last to give into cancelling events. The crowd at Cheltenham today was massive.

With all Spanish football now having to play all their games behind closed doors. I expect that UEFA will come out soon and say that all European cup ties will have to be played behind closed doors, or limited to a few thousand spectators.

I sincerely hope that should UEFA come out and say that all UEFA cup ties have to be played behind closed doors. That Boris Johnson will stand firm and say that at the moment that will not happen. It is the British Government that will decide, when and what happens to British sporting events and not EUFA.
There are different conditions in different countries, therefore there should be different strategies.

The daily increase in the UK remains is trending up but not alarmingly so. Something has to change for the football authorities to change tack.

In every hotspot around the world we have had a steep increase in cases, followed by a steady decline. I don't see why it will be any different here.

t-1, 67 (WHO)
t-2, 43 (WHO)

Hopefully the trend starts to flatten.

Curiouser and curiouser. Wonder if they've seen this on RAWK?
"They include staging play-offs, not having a champion for 2019-20 or declaring the current standings final."

Seems they can make it up as they go along, I know this is unprecedented but you would think there are rules around what happens if the matches cannot be completed. In my mind it should be the season is declared null and void and we start all over with the existing reigning champions.

Sounds fair to me!

I'll take a playoff.

Looking at the latest set of figures coming out of Italy, that doesn’t surprise me in the least
The number of new cases is significantly lower. They've gone up by less than a 1k. They were up by almost 1500 the day before. The media always report whatever is the most sensational.

Obviously there's daily wobble around a trend but I don't think those figures are alarming given the past. In fact they are quite encouraging suggesting past quarantine measures are having an effect, and that therefore current tightening of the restrictions should have an added beneficial effect. Will need to see confirmation of this over next couple of days.
