Accept that, but how many people have died in this country or others from 'standard flu' so far this winter? And we have done nothing about that apart from issue free flu vaccines. Why isn't that being reported? Every year 70k-100k die from flu and we do bugger all in comparison . I accept my view is over simplistic but I refuse to be scared or panicked by most of the shit that's being peddled

I believe the reason globally we see these measures put in place, that at first sight seem over the top, in relation to deaths from flu is that as this is a new issue the authorities are petrified that it will mutate into a different strain that potentially could have far worse death rate % than your annual flu strain. We dont have a vaccine for this strain as its so new so we wouldnt have a vaccine either for any potential mutated strain. The authorities hope measures will reduce infection numbers, keep this at a level thats workeable til more research can be done to produce vaccine. Yes "normal flu"leads to many many deaths but at least we understand it to a certain degree but not completely. Authorities are more scared of the unknowns.

The world owes China a great debt. Their scientists saved a lot of live by sequencing the virus in record time which allowed people the world over to diagnose and hence isolate the virus.

Hope I'm wrong but my gut feeling is China is making it not as bad as it is.

No matter what UEFA think they are, no matter what power they think they have, they will be told very simplest and clearly to do one by the governments, even more so in this country right now.

Your right - they have no say what so ever in this; it’s down to individual governments and regional authorities in some places.

I’m sure however they will make it sound like they are calling the shots somehow ;-)

So it seems UEFA are trying to hold out for Governments and regional authorities to call the shots so they can stand back and not have to take the flack.

Bullshit if true. Nobody wants that. You’ve got managers and players everywhere saying they don’t want to play in empty stadiums and would rather not play at all. The only option is to suspend the league entirely and then make the decision on how to move forward in the summer. Have they considered what they’re going to do when players here get it and entire teams have to go into isolation? Are they going to ask teams to play multiple times a week when the fixtures pile up straight after an isolation period almost guaranteeing injury? They’ll be legal claims everywhere from teams who miss out/get relegated claiming unfair advantages.

Suspended it would be the sensible option and would suit the fans the most. But the fans and sense aren't paramount, money is. The decision makers at The PL and UEFA will be shitting themselves at the thought of the financial impacts of Corona.

There are vaccines available for most of the common flu types though. I am not trying to scare or panic people but it is a real threat to elderly people with underlying health conditions, it's twice as contagious as flu, and currently there's no vaccine. I am trying to carry on pretty much as normal but with more hand washing. Authorities sometimes have to take the bigger overview to protect the most vulnerable.
