Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

Yes, presumably what happens with regards to the idea of fulfilling games in the summer if possible after the postponements.

Not carrying out games in the immediate future.

Tell me why you think Tuesday is too late to make a decision on if the Euros is cancelled/cancelled postponed to allow summer league football?
I'm not really arsed about the Euros at the moment, to be honest. I just don't understand why they haven't made an announcement re: CL and Europa League yet. The implication from their statement is that we won't get that until after the meeting on Tuesday, which seems like an unnecessary delay to me.

You’re having a mare lad.

I'm not, people are just desperate to shit on IEFA because its UEFA.

they are sorting out a meeting to work out if its possible and decide if they should postpone or cancel a tournament which involves 12 host countries, 24 participating nations and 55 football associations and if they can play the leagues in the summer.

5 days to organise that isnt bad. And especially when they have 3 months until the tournament start date.

They've already announced our game and Juventus v Lyon are suspended though, so clearly we wont have to wait until after Tuesday's meeting to hear about that.

They probably want to get tonight's games which they've already cleared with local FAs and governments, and where the risk of travelling has already happened for the teams involved- out of the way before announcing a complete suspension.

Not making this a political thread but sounds like the Government haven't got a clue on this one, just postpone it and play it all in the summer if we can, Euro's goes back to next year.

It's obviously really popular to just have a massive shit on UEFA, but if they're discussing delaying or cancelling a tournament as big as the Euros, with serious impact to 12 different countries, or trying to work out the possibilities or ramifications of delaying it by 12 months....that's not a meeting you can just have on the fly, get the lads round the conference table in Nyom tomorrow 9 am..

They're supposedly about to announce that the CL and Europa are suspended, so why would they rush into a meeting about Euro 2020 tomorrow?
Because there isn’t a pups chance of completing the play-offs in time even assuming that the clearance to play and to travel are available.

I am sure that UEFA would prefer the CL and the EL to be completed by running into June and July, not to mention the domestic competitions in Italy, Spain, etc.

Delaying the European Championships by one year would solve a lot of problems.

UEFA will take direction from national governments - the domestic leagues will be suspended and further decisions will be made, don’t plan on watching any football apart from reruns on tv until this summer folks.

It’s a slam dunk and within 48hrs our own HMG will be laying down the law on sports as well as a lot of other things that will change the way we live for a while.

The reason for the delay in meeting is that everyone will want to take advise from national governments across Europe as well as legal advice in terms of revenue loss, promotions, missed games, changes to transfer window regulations etc etc

Football is a microcosm of the change we will be seeing and the post event fall out will be just as seismic as the initial infection rates

it is 2020,they can have this meeting by conference calls set up for this evening

So just to get this straight, you think they can get hold of the right person in charge of hosting major events in London, Munich, Baku, St Petersburg, Budapest, Amsterdam, Bucharest, Copenhagen, Bilbao, Glasgow, Dublin and the people who manage all 12 stadiums and the 11 government departments who need to be involved by this evening and they can all provide all the information immediately about whether they can host again in 12 months time and then make a decision straight away?

What fucking world are you living on? Theres a reason these tournaments are worked on for 8 years before the date, it takes a long time to organise them and postponing a year is not as simple as just phoning people up telling them.

I agree delaying it would be best, but it took 3 years for UEFA to nail down the venues for this pan-European tournament and if it take 5 days to reorganise it for a year later, that's pretty good going.

They are supposedly also looking at reorganizing in just 1 country or just cancelling and need to coordinate with La Liga, Premier League, Serie A etc to even see if they could play through the summer. 5 days to work on that isnt bad.

However by delaying the Euros till next year, this would have a knock on effect for the World Cup in 2yrs time. Come August we are going to be playing the group games for the World Cup in 2022.

But the cl and europia involve just as much travelling and contact with other europians as the euro's does, has nobody there got any sense, money is driving that kind of nonsense

They are all at work, they just need to go to their office and pick up their video phone, they can start the conversation at a high level today, set out a protacol and tell people what info they need to have to make things happen FROM tuesday,i don't think you are getting that things are getting worse by the hour,it is thurs, tues is a long way off, your stats are not going to wash on this subject
