Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

This wont be better in a months time. There will be millions in the uk infected by then.
I can't see how they can play the games at all whether that be in 1 month. 2 month. 3 month. This virus will spread through most of the uk population.

The only option is to void.
I even doubt next season will actually start in August.

Its wake up time for the authorities. This shit has just got real. 1 in 50 people will die. Let that sink in. That's 1.3 million people in the uk.
And all the premier league are arsed about is whether liverpool get the league.

I won't be going to any games this year or at least until the virus has died out.
I value my elderly family members far more than i do football.

1.3m people will NOT die.
We are conflating deaths and tests.
Not everyone that has died from it had been tested, so the figures are skewed.
If you take the government measure that between 5-10k people actually have it, and compare that against 10 deaths is a more realistic outcome.

still think we should scrap the league though.
Scousers lose another deposit on an open top bus.

Rumours are that the PL will propose a 3-4 week suspension. They're deluded if they think we'll be able to start playing again at the start of April. Maybe they're just buying a bit of breathing time to work out what to do.

Judging by what has happened in other countries and the spread of the virus, best case scenario is being able to play again in 3 or 4 months time. With this in mind, I fully expect the PL/FA to call off games for the next week.

I think July/August is more likely, then they have a choice:
- Finish the season and delay the start and cut short next season.
- Void and decide the outcome of this season.

I actually think the former would be more preferable but ultimately none of it matters right now in the grand scheme of things.

How about suspending the season and all the leagues and merging this PL season with 2020/2021 season, with all clubs starting with positions and points from this suspended season. And just for fun, promote WBA and Leeds so, we go to good old days of 22 clubs. I'am just saying :)

The world are reporting deaths to be 1 - 3%.
Are the uk special?

Everyone's doing this Ric. They suspend for a week whilst they sort everything out then they'll make a proper decision. I've heard from my press mate that there's talk that NEXT season is in doubt!! Bloody hell

Realistically, do you actually think only '10 people' have died of this? Given our inability to test properly and how quickly this is spreading, I'd suggest to think the number is 10 is ignorant.

All those unfit players ambling round the pitch like they’ve been on the ale and smoked a 20 pack

If one thing has come from this debacle it’s the world has seen exactly how inept and money driven the premier league really is. A statement released going against the entire worlds actions declaring this weeks games go ahead as planned and then less than an hour later having a manager test positive quickly followed by a player from another team and 3 additional teams go into self isolation to add to the one already in it makes them look like the clueless morons that they are.

Premier League haven't made any official announcement yet for those posting.

There's only what we can assume are guesses (probably fairly accurate) from a few journalists.

They're only just starting to convene for this meeting.

An announcement is due soon though.
