Lockdown living tips

Tidy the hell out of the house - loft storage, garage, etc. Marie Kondo style.

Use the interesting yet ignored ingredients at the back of the cupboards.

Try new things, learn new things.

I fancy learning Italian . Anybody have any recommendations for an App ? There seems to be dozens and I don’t mind paying for a good one
I always found Pimsleur to be good. Super expensive though.

Depending on exactly how much you don't mind paying, there are a lot of language teachers out there right now who are struggling because they have zero hours contracts. Perhaps think about doing lessons with a proper teacher. You'll learn a lot more.

Wickes have 25kg bags of play sand for £4.50 for the kids, looking sunny this week.

Also leapfrog learning tools are free for a month I think, not seen confirmation but a few parents are saying so.

Disney+ starts Wednesday and you can get a years subscription for £49.99. Moana, Frozen, Mandalorian etc.

You can use your mobile phone as a controller/microphone if you have a PS3 or PS4 (probably Xbox also) for the just dance and singstar games. Have to buy the games and extra tracks though, but bit of exercise for the kids also.

The Linguaphone complete Italian course is very good, although not cheap. It gives an excellent foundation in the language and is extremely thorough. A bit dated perhaps though now.

The BBC do a good book called Buongiorno Italia which you can get under a tenner Amazon product ASIN 0563519452 . I would recommend getting the CDs to go with it though (unless you can download them somewhere free) Amazon product ASIN 0563519460
Hugo's Italian in 3 months is pretty good too Amazon product ASIN 1405301023
Teach Yourself Italian is a bit slower paced but good for absolute beginners Amazon product ASIN 1444174711
Many like Colloquial Italian but I find it a bit over prices compared to the others.

If you already have a solid foundation the Yabbla tool is very good https://italian.yabla.com

As IWS pointed out above, it is always a good idea to find a teacher to help you. Plenty looking for work at reasonable prices and they can teach through Skype.

It's a lovely language and probably about the easiest for English speakers.

Don’t run out of Rizla. Nearly shit the bed before when I came to the ‘last 10 remaining’ notice.
Nearest place that sells them is a 10 minute drive and not sure I can blag a Guardia Civil roadblock that they are essential...

i like the duolingo one, only thing i find is i can read the language well enough but until you try it out on someone you will never know how good it is.

I wouldn’t worry about that.
One of my sons once went out with a woman who had a first in French, worked as a commercial translator, but when she came to Brittany she found it really hard to understand the locals, saying their regional accents were very strong.

Whens lockdown then my guess is friday?

Are we not nearly there already?

People told only to go out for exercise, food shopping and essential work

Really all that is next is to close the highstreet shops and have police on the street to enforce unecessary movement.

My girls have told me that if I don't die of the virus, they'll kill me if I go out of the house or use my car! I suppose I'm in the "vulnerable" class being 70 in 3 weeks, with medical conditions (diabetes, etc), so I have no option. They won't even let me decorate, and spent yesterday painting the front bedroom, having firstly been shopping for me. I'm really proud of them.
I've always been a reader, and have a bookcase full of novels from SF to Pratchett, Cussler, Baldacci, Childs, etc, plus several cookery books and historical novels. Currently, I'm re-reading for the nth time the "Lensman" series by E E "Doc" Smith, written in the 50s. Not as old as Flash Gordon, but in the same style.
Having read the previous posts, I may learn another language and update my French, as I'm getting rusty not having been for 4 years.
It's taken a plague to get me to do this. Why has it taken so long?

Fuck me.. guardia road block...for a country that doesn't know how to collect taxes that's a bit steep

With all the dickheads still driving about 2 to a car when they’ve been told not to, I think the fines might cover the shortfall of any taxes!
