Anyone else just had a text saying you must stay at home?

Yea we have, but it's very confusing as my mate had the text from the government to stay at home than a few hours later a text from work place Halfords saying that are reopening on Thursday and he is due in to work. I guess there is going to be a rush to buy push bikes

People who are furloughed should be responding to this.

I agree. The least they can do if they're fit & healthy (and there's nobody in their house who is at high risk).

I've done it because it looks as though my business is going to be extremely quiet over the next few months so I can devote some time to this.

I think the staff that have to keep us going, NHS, food supply chain, council, police, fire service should get a 20% pay rise until this is all over (sorry if I missed anyone else who deserves it).

Well thus isn't very reassuring

If true across other populations, that could be VERY good news indeed. It would imply MANY more infections than we currently imagine, and therefore a much lower overall death rate. Not much comfort for anyone in ICU, but quite a bit of comfort for those worrying about whether they may or may not find themselves there.

I have real doubts about the Governments underlying conditions line, As far as I know there has not been 1 death associated to a previously fit and healthy person. In Italy they have doctors an nurses dying from this virus.
After 400+ deaths and an age range of 18 to 100+ I just find it hard to accept.

Italy they have doctors an nurses dying from this virus.
I would presume it's from being exhausted,18hrs plus shifts, stress level's must be out of orbit
Food & drinks,(not partaking enough)
Very sad,for some very very Brave people

Lombardy is the main reason for the high number of deaths there, they tried to lockdown and thousands of people left before it was enforced. I don’t think we’ve had that situation here, probably why the Govt have stressed London won’t have a complete lockdown by itself.
The epidemic in Italy is fueled largely by an epidemic in Lombardy now not by migrants who escaped Lombardy. I remember when the Italian press leaked the Lombardy lockdown but we have similar issues with Londoners moving to 2nd homes in Cornwall, Wales, and the Highlands.

The number of new cases that we get each day is proportional to the number of cases we have and the transmission rate. It's rise is inexorable unless we do something radical to impact on the transmission rate going forward.

We have a big advantage over Italy in that our number of cases is way below theirs which mean that if we impose strict isolation measures now, and test then we can get on top of the new cases. Italy shows social isolation works but it would be incredibly stupid to slowly ratchet it up until we are in the teeth of it, otherwise we'll see a lot of deaths too. Better to lockdown now, then we could halt the growth before the number of cases gets too high remembering that around 1% of infected people will die.

I don't see why people should have such faith in the UK government over and above the Italians. So far they have done nothing to deserve it. Perhaps the relative complacency comes from the UK's existence as an island nation which probably reduced our initial numbers and left us someway down the list. That's a lucky break due to geography not competence.
