Getting to the point where a lack of resources, staff etc... is almost inadvertently forcing us down the herd immunity route, as the testing route becomes less effective.

Might be worth focusing on the 'have you had it' test as that might be more effective at narrowing down which areas and people are more at risk.

I think staffing issues won't be the problem with ex staff members coming back into service.
I would put the blame on the thousands who were pissing it up and all the big gathering the other week,
How many were infected that weekend God knows..

At the same time it strikes me as a bit weird that numbers are so similar day after day in certain countries. I think they're all handling them as best they can to try to manage the hype/sensationalism.

Iran mostly looks suspect for that. It's around 150 for two-three weeks. It's either the peak which lasts very long or they are lying to stop panic.

Hmmmmm. I don't think so.

We have 25,000 known cases and people dying at the rate of 300 or 400 a day already. Let's suppose the actual infections is 100x that, and there are 2.5m infected. Waiting for 40m+ to be infected for herd immunity would mean 1,000's of people per day dying, for quite a while.

And what if there's only 10x infected? Then it's tens of thousands a day. There is no scenario where herd immunity is any kind of "solution". Absolute supression of this thing is the only way out without total carnage.

Yeah my last paragraph was more a tongue in cheek comment based on the way things are panning out.

I absolutely don't want it to be the strategy but it just feels like we're sleep-walking into it.

Lack of testing and a fairly flimsy lockdown just seems to be solving nothing.

The testing is still the biggest issue.

We have to test our way out of this crisis, unfortunately the below is happening:

Part of me thinks we're too late though, if we're hoping to get to 25,000 tests by the end of April then that just seems far too slow.

That is ridiculous, every day they say they are testing more when in reality they are not

i think we got a few weeks before reaching that point - providing everyone plays their part.

Not really, but seeing that you can`t give a specific reason as to why you`re shocked at the numbers, then perhaps I`m not shocked at your inability to engage in a debate.
Shocking really.
Can you explain, coz not really is neither yes or no, it’s a debate. Are you infatuated with me.

One thing we chatted about a lot a couple of weeks back, but I’ve not seen any posted figures on (on here I mean), is our current ICU capacity Vs the amount of people needing such care.

Do we still have “spare” capacity?
Not seen any UK figures, When Scotland publish their daily figures they give the number in ICU, Today 135, think before this there were 180 beds. Apparently they have doubled that and aim to quadruple to over 700 in hospitals plus talking about adding 300 in a field hospital but with a capacity for up to 1000.
Not sure how many ventilators are available for those beds though ,or CPAP machines, but hopefully they are starting to arrive in the next week or so.

they said yes and in addition the new hospital in London will be ready by the end of the week to provide additional capacity

I`ll let you into a secret.Having looked at the number of posts between us,today only, this is now my 5th response to you.You too also have 5.However you were the first one of us to respond to a post I sent to A.N.Other so who the fuck is infatuated first ??
By the way you need to make your fucking mind up about either being shocked by the figures regarding the number of deaths or not.I suggest you look at you own post, #25005 page 2501 where YOU claim you are not shocked !! WELL MAKE YOUR FUCKING MIND UP ONE WAY OR THE OTHER SUNSHINE !!!!
I am NOT interested about the large increase as thats not part of any discussion I`ve had with you.

Spoke to a doctor who works at mri today. They have plenty of capacity still.

I think a few posters reputations have died a death on this thread. Friendships made over years have been lost in a matter of weeks.
Thankfully, others threads aren't suffering the same fate.
When this is all over, i hope a few people take the time to reread their posts and then take the time to apologise to those they have bad mouthed or insulted.
I don't care how bad things get, there is no excuse for some peoples behaviour.
All you are doing is showing how weak you are at dealing with a crisis, and then taking it out on others...

Is this you playing hard to get ? ;-)

The government has said there are now 25,150 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK

https://news.sky.com/story/coronavi...-after-testing-positive-for-covid-19-11966273

What is our death rates as a % ?

It's about 5 4% on reported cases but that's farcical as cases could be 5/10/15/20 times the numbers reported (which are critical cases).

Best to look at the deaths per million of the population which is a column on the worlometers site country counts:
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries

We are currently 26.
Italy is 206, Spain is 177, Belgium and the Netherlands are 71 France is 54, Switzerland 46 and Luxemburg is 37.
