Keir Starmer

Nandy talked herself out of my vote in the end so I went with RLB and Dawn Butler. I find Starmer a bit of an unexciting choice but I think his shadow cabinet choices have the potential to win me over. The factionalism in the party membership remains a massive concern for me though. Everyone needs to get behind the leader now as think the press will come for Starmer in the same way they went for Corbyn. Let's not help them.

Leave him alone. He's locked down and his hero has been consigned to oblivion. He's fragile right now.

You got what you wanted.

You should try a little humility in victory, given you sacrificed your dignity to achieve it.

Brown was very difficult for Blair to manage, Brown never got over Blair going for the leadership and getting it.

He was incredibly petulant and purposefully difficult.

People rightly complain about Blair and Campbell over Iraq and Kelly, amongst other things.

But the undermining, self-serving Scottish narcissist Brown has a hell of a lot to answer for.

People who 'won the argument' don't need to count the votes.

Are they old “the government are acting like socialists because of what they’re doing during this crisis” idiocy.

It’s not a good argument to make when it’s going to bankrupt the country, is it?

Starmer needs to get this right now.

He needs to get rid of the likes of Richard Burgon, from any position of influence, Abbott must be included in that cull.

Move far away from his Brexit position, that needs leaving in the past and they must continue the path to properly leaving.

He needs to not go back on the abolishment of FOM.

If he does this and stands on Labour’s 2017 manifesto, I think he’s got a shot and I may potentially be tempted, but there’s a lot to do.

He’s more suited than Johnson for the top job.

I think you’re completely wrong on his position on Europe.

The polls before the last election showed Remain was comfortably ahead.

I understand it’s not your position, and it might not be the position of the “working class north”, but it was still the position of the majority of the electorate.

The reason Corbyn got trounced in my view was not because he backed Remain. (He’s actually a Leaver). The reason he lost is because he didn’t have a clear message on Europe. People wanted an end to the uncertainty, and Corbyn as an individual, and his policies were completely unelectable.

If Labour wants to win, it has to be a pro-European party in my view. With the Tories being driven by Dominic Cummings and essentially swallowing up the Brexit party and UKIP, we’re seeing British politics begin to ape US politics.

The right is dominated by big business and the anti-immigrant working class, and the left being the home of liberal moderates.

Moderates have been without a home for so long, with the Tories lurching to the far right, it was crying out for someone to occupy the centre ground.

I think Starmer will hoover up a lot of centre ground Tories who voted for Bojo because Corbyn was completely unelectable.

If Labour campaign on an anti-Europe, anti-immigration ticket, they will not be offering an alternative to the Cummings-led Tories, and would only maybe claw back some anti-immigrant working class votes. That won’t be enough to get them elected.

If the last 30 years has taught us anything, it’s that the only way Labour can win a General Election, it’s by being moderate, centre ground, pro business, third-way, pro European party. That’s the direction I expect Starmer to go and I think he’ll get a lot of support.

I'll help you out.

The problem with the Labour Party is the Labour Party.

I’m a remainer bud. Voted remain in 2016 and would do every time if asked again.

I also voted Liberal Democrat in December.

My view is constituency-wise, they need those heartlands back and the working class leave vote needs to return.

He needs to distance himself from the European question in my opinion.

You’re right they need the heartlands back.

But they also need middle England back if they want to win an election, and I think if they go anti-FOM against the anti-FOM Tories they’ve got no chance.
