That’s just guesswork on your part chippy and probably not good guesswork either.
I think your "probably" above is just guesswork. All we know for sure is that the government's actions and the publicly aired advice from the Chief Medical Officer, Chief Scientific Officer and their respective departments, have all been fully concordant and aligned.

To suggest the government has been receiving alternative advice and ignoring it, is a MUCH wilder speculation than my assumption that this is not the case.

Honestly think we are nowhere near peak as of yet and we are in for the long haul here fighting this.

The issue facing them and us is what happens once we are all let out again?

Right now id say we infect each other and that is why the lockdown will continue.

I agree - mid May at best, and quite possibly the end of May. We are still several days away from peak - 13th was suggested by Hancock - but obviously that is not certain. And the idea that 2 weeks later we'd be out of lockdown and things returning to normal, is fanciful IMO.

FYI, Italy's peak (daily new cases) was nearly 3 weeks ago, and yet their figures have not halved yet. That might give people an idea of how long this will take to drop back down once we've peaked.
My prediction was that it would take us to Midsummer.

I think they were right to initially say three weeks and now that’s nearly up I think they should say there’ll be six further weeks (late May). Then in six weeks see where we stand but I should think it will be extended beyond that too.

Looks like the USA are charging people on terrorism charges for attempting to spread the virus....1 man charged with it for spitting and coughing on a copper.

2 charged sorry.....1 guy in Texas claimed on facebook he paid people to spread it in supermarkets.........USA classing it as a "Biological weapon"
Got to be the way forward!

I don't know about mid summer. But even if it is that far out, I don't think they would announce that anyway. I don't think doing so would be a good plan, and IMO they would announce maybe another 3 weeks and then extend it again, even if a much longer lock down was their intention.

IMO if you tell something they have to put up with something for a short period, you have a much better chance of getting them to do so. if you tell them it's going to be like this for months, then again IMO a greater number would think "fuck that for a lark" and decide they are going to ignore it and take their chances.

You'd probably have more businesses fold as well. Business which might contemplate hanging on if it's only another few weeks, but if you tell them it's months, they will think what's the point of postponing the inevitable, we may as well just wind the business up.

So for all these reasons, I'd be surprised if we announce a very long extension.

You may be right. The difference is that cabinet ministers have been doing some stupid things re social distancing, low-paid workers have had little choice. Cabinet ministers was a bad example of the point that this affects the poor more (not least density of housing as well as public-facing risky jobs).
That’s all fair comment.

The figures are still being manipulated IMO, in one instance 15 elderly people died in a care home in England and 10 of them weren't tested to see whether they died of the coronavirus because "it will not change the public health management".

How many more older people die that are being discounted by authorities? The death figure is a lot more than is being reported if these care homes across the country are losing residents this way.

Two weeks then one week at a time I reckon

Over 1,000 social gatherings have been dispersed by GMP. Including house parties, street parties and people playing sport in groups in parks.

We need to go into stricter measures, soon.

Hopefully the government will consider this. Eh? Oh...

The government is their employer and it's what decent employers do. It's what my employer has done in fact, though not so much extra. But some extra money to allow for office equipment etc.

Why this should be deemed a scandal and not exemplary behaviour from an employer is a bit beyond me.

87% of deaths over 70 at the end of March in Germany similar to the rest of the world.I don't know what proportion of those have second homes and failed to escape - maybe Momentum keep the stats
"The 583 COVID-19-related deaths reported in Germany since 09/03/2020 concerned 384 (66%) men and 198 (34%) women. The median age was 82 years and the range 28 to 104 years. Of all deaths, 507 (87%) were in persons 70 years or older. Of all reported cases only 12% were 70 years or older. Reports on COVID-19 related outbreaks in nursing homes are increasing. In these outbreaks the case fatality is high. In some of these outbreaks, the number of deaths is relatively high."

Hands up on that. I misread cases for deaths.

Surely they are already geared up to working from home unless they are incompetent useless twats. Oh wait....

Went on my usual walk last night around 6pm and went through Chadderton Park in Oldham.
5 Teenagers sat on a bench with cans sat next to each other!
Obviously they think they are invincible !
Was very tempted to say something but wife said I would probably get battered!!
What world do these idiots live in??
Don't blame them, or their parents. They're vulnerable and need everyone to do things for them.

Think the media could be less divisive in how they report this stuff. That £10k is office and staff budget. I doubt the MPs will be pocketing this extra cash themselves. A lot of businesses have had to spend money on equipping staff so that they can work from home etc so it seems like a good idea to spend money tohat allow staff to continue their constituency work from home.
