Scariest away day following City

On the Russian thing which is not the thread topic they attacked a load of drunk Dad's having a sing song and arrived mysteriously on a state sponsored plane. It was political flexing of muscle prior to the world cup in my opinion.

Exactly. Banning orders and the death of hooliganism in this country bar the odd incident meant the England fans over there were just fans, old and young. There for a beer, sing song and to support the team. The Russians turned up 30 years too late and thought they had mullered the infamous and feared English hooligans when it was nothing of the sort.

And don't forget to take any Piccadilly Radio 261, Placemate 7 or Pips Nightclub stickers out of the rear window, and anything else that may indicate that the car belongs to somebody from Manchester. Just hope that there are no smart arses among the locals who can tell which cars have registration numbers that have been issued by the Manchester DVLA (it was just off Deansgate back in those days).
In Newcastle they simply read where the tax disc was issued

Jesus, either you have eyes everywhere or you spend your time watching clips of hooligans on Youtube. You make sweeping statements and quote statistics without any facts. You should be writing stories for the red tops.

He probably does. Everytime these threads pop up someone comes on spouting the same claptrap. No one is glorifying it or thought those days were great but it was just part of going to a game back then. We are reminiscing. Oh and trust me a lot of those boys could fight one on one and sometimes one against two, three or more. Go and say that to Mickey Francis who although pushing 60 now would still put you on your arse.

Indeed. Friendships made in adversity, still acknowledged 40 years later. I can't remember any scrapes where the lads I was with were doing the bullying. From memory we were always outnumbered & the way we were dressed identified us for what we were.

exactly ...we never had the numbers Utd , Liverpool etc had.....small mobs but stuck together and mostly stood

I remember some poor bastard scouser car had parked up near Claremont School.....someone checked their tax disc then torched it.....another was tipped on its side.

Remember a boro fans car tipped over near the sherwood when Juninho played for them they beat us in the cup at Maine road and someone had parked there with a sticker of him in the window

Spot on and what's often forgotten before it became fashionable for fans of clubs to start naming themselves and getting organised every opposing fan trod carefully away. Even when the firms started up and tended to try and fight with other firms there were a load of others who would have a pop at an away fan whether they wanted it or not.

Yes. If you go back to the footage those Russian fans looked more like paramilitary types. They all looked like they’d just come out of the army, a lot were wearing face masks and carrying clubs/ metal bars/ weapons of all types, which allegedly the local Marseille fans had supplied to them.

You’ve also got to remember most of the old school England fans who would have taken them on (as opposed to the families and drunks dads as you rightly point out) aren’t allowed to travel when England play away and have to sign in at Police stations on the day of a match. There was no chance that was ever going to be a ‘fair-fight’, so to speak. That was totally out of order. There was a Pompey fan in intensive care for a few weeks after.

The shit is really going to hit the fan with your latest post Paul!!!!

Guvnors book by Mickey Francis relates a few instances if I remember correctly.
Donald did most of what Mickey wrote in that book.

Still don't think we bullied women and kids or lads who didnt want it.

Of course I might have missed some things, can't be with every single mob at every single skirmish.

We certainly would have only defended ourselves and not gone looking for it.
