Fisheries starting to close in Scotland to follow government advice to cut down on non essential travel. May have to consider going back to river fishing.

Canal trout ? Crikey, didn't know they were that common ! I know they were stocked many years back because my mate caught 18 once under the bridge at Agden but that was 35 years ago !

The canals in my area are all navigation cuts for the River Calder so the whole system is connected. It means you catch chub and trout regularly in the canals.

I managed one more trip before lockdown and had a perch just under a pound and a lovely follow from a big pike which missed the lure under my feet.

I was happily thinking that I could do it every day for my “exercise” hour until the government put the kibosh on that. My Esthwaite water pike marathon was sadly cancelled too.

It’s going to be like June 16th used to be when things are finally lifted. And as you say, we will all have clean and tidy tackle!

Nowhere mate. It’s accepted that nobody will go fishing at all at the moment. I have heard about poachers on The Ribble but they are being thrown off when found apparently.

Best part of the fly fishing season April and May gone. God knows how many fisheries will reopen. It’s a fine margin game at the best of times.

cant see why fishing isn't allowed,possibly the most social distancing sport there is,worms or maggots don't need to be bought,you lads that do fly fishing don't need bait, other anglers can use bread sweetcorn ect ect. can anyone give me 1 reason you aren't allowed to fish

I live a stones throw from the beat I fish on the Wye mate. Its private. I fly fish for salmon, so I am stood in river.... I can't fish... fuck knows why.

Fish & Game guidelines (relating to fresh water fishing)

It is possible to fish locally, not at your favourite spot, but at you closest spot while observing the above restrictions.

• All fishing must be land based. Current restrictions from the Government mean you cannot fish from a boat
• Our understanding of of level 3 restrictions is that you can fish all legal methods from the shore of a local lake or at a local river.
• All Fish & Game fishing regulations on open waters, bag limits etc. remain unaltered and will be enforced.

Absolutely correct, but I think there is a worry that once you allow one sport/outdoor activity you open the floodgates and before you know it Liverpool will be insisting they can finish the season without breaking the 2m rule.
