Alcohol, hints, tips, advice etc.

My pleasure, me old China. Be kind to yourself, and let's keep this thread going, aye?
Deffo.
I'm planning to stop this weekend. I'm fucking dreading it. I'd like to post my progress whether good or bad.
Hope I don't bore you all too much.
Thanks all again.
I seem to be continously thanking people lately.

Great. But don't feel you have to report in on your progress when we all chat on this thread. Cool if you want to or it helps, but don't heap pressure on yourself, mate.

I think I need the pressure to succeed mate. Time will tell. I hope by posting how I'm getting on might help someone.
Fuck knows in reality.

Expect some sh*t nights sleep for the first week or two, but if you get some exercise and burn off your excess energy it will certainly help, even if it's just going for a walk after your tea (just not to the pub ;-)).

Speak tomorrow, bud. I'm off to bye-byes. Pleasure talking to you....and everyone else on here.

I've only been on here a week, but I've been all over Bluemoon like a rash (I'll calm down soon!). Can't tell you how much you've all helped me...as I'm on me lonesome because the Mrs is abroad caring for her mum.

Nighty night, all (you'll still be Champions in the morning!!).

I used to drink a lot, it's part of our culture. I could always handle a good drink and as I hated the staggering about, talking shite and fighting every fucking other weekend, I used to have to calm cunts down, or lumber the pricks up the road.

I decided to go to more expensive places to avoid the same old shit and they also yad nice women. I still drank a lot and worried I was becoming an alcoholic and think I can thank hangovers. Mine were brutal then, fucking leathal now. It's an addiction and luckily I dodged a bullet. I still drink, and it has increased since lockdown, but it will return to normal if the weather turns crap, or lockdown ends. My mum had a problem.with drink after her and my dad split up. So, I know what it does to people you love. My heart goes out to anyone having a problem with drink. The first step I suppose is being honest with yourself. I too lost two pals in the last two years to drink and the impact of that on their families was heartbreaking. It's too.easy to stay just stop. Professional help is required. I don't like AA as they push the higher power god shite, which I think is fucking shocking, as it's the person who stops. Anyway, whatever works for each person. Hope the OP manages to kick it.

I'm on my 5th day without a drink and I sleep like a baby. Mind you I very rarely drink after 6pm and use other stuff for sleeping help.

Hi Amigo, I hope all's well and that you're having a decent day.
Hi mate. Good thanks.
Thanks for asking.
Decided not to wait till weekend to try quitting.
Nearly through day 1. Body doesn't realise yet so I feel pretty good. The next 2 will be the hardest.
Thanks again mate, it's appreciated.

Brilliant.

(more patronising advice alert). Try to absorb yourself in something, if you can. A book, or writing about how you feel in a diary, or dig out that guitar you never learned to play (don't worry, we all have one).....whatever else floats your candle.

I took delivery of a used Kindle from Fleabay the other day. Just £20 delivered, and it's pretty recent and very tidy. Half-way through the 1st book I've read in years (shameful for a so-called writer!). Just hauling my sorry arse into the 21st century! Best £20 I spent in years.

As i say, maybe try to distract yourself with something you really fancy. I know the physical side will be way harder than boredom, but even if it helps a bit, it can't be bad.

ATB, bud....a lot of people rooting for you and sending you positive vibes,
