COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Started feeling unwell on Tuesday, went and had a sniff of some of the wife's perfume, couldn't smell anything. Phoned the wife at work (she is a midwife) they sent her home and said we both needed testing ( her test was negative). Been in bed since then, massive temperature fluctuations either freezing cold or boiling hot, slept a lot. No cough yet, feel a bit better this morning, will let you know how I get on.
All the best then mate, same to your wife.

I know it's different to SARS but that eventually didn't require a vaccine as it fizzled out somewhat. What's the likelihood of the same happening with COVID19 - literally runs out of hosts to infect and falls into the background. Meanwhile all the incredible (fast tracked) work going onto find vaccines and treatments for this actually helps unlock many more answers to the common cold and flu (and this has been mentioned by virologists - the amount of research going into this is enormous for obvious reasons).

I'm always looking for a positive as it does no good for your well being to think doom and gloom constantly (you know those people you say hello to on a sunny day for them to reply with a 'yeah, but they've given out rain tomorrow...').

I though the world was on the cusp of getting on top of all know diseases, viruses...but this shows we aren't quite there.
Computer modelling is helping...I've got my hopes on quantum computing eventually providing incredible data that will help push things forward for humanity (or AI takes over and chomps us all up into packets of terabyte data...)

Take care mate and lets hope its nothing more than a flu bug.

She’s really getting on my tits with her pathetic desperation to make herself relevant.
I never minded her until she made that petty personal comment about Jackson Carlaw’s skin. And then it was him who got slated in the press for his comeback jibe (which I thought was justified because it wasn’t the first time she’d mentioned the chapped skin on his face!)

Saw what she was all about in that one moment though.

Must admit I'm getting a bit deflated with the recent daily reports/stats from North of the border. Sure its a far better position than we were in a few weeks ago but the infection rate seems to be lingering round about the 300 mark per day and has done for a while. I'd have hoped they would be gradually dropping but consistently so which isn't the case, seems to have stagnated.

Could the infections being somewhat more contained in the community but rife within care homes be causing it?

Ayrshire is coping it quite bad in relation to us down in Dumfries & Galloway it seems and i can remember the last time we had more than 5 poor souls in ICU with our cases in and around the low 200 each day but with only 50/60 hospitalisations.

We do self isolate all year round though!

Sadly I don't think it burning out is likely mate, not until a simply dreadful amount of people have died. The difference between this and SARS is that this one is highly contagious and people spread it before they show any symptoms. It's much better at getting about basically.

Edit - but you're right, we will benefit from this in some ways by the time its all over.

I know exactly why we are in lockdown, however what happens in winter do we go back into it as winter flu hits as well. What the scientist was saying was no matter what you do the virus is still there, we cannot be in lockdown forever so at some point to you have to just get on with and accept the deaths that come, or do we just keep cycling lockdown until there is a cure, which might never come?
Well scientists were predicting a bad flu season ahead but whether it will get here without open borders will be a moot point.

That's when you protect the vulnerable and relax lockdown but maintain distancing.

I also predict by next winter that face-masks will be a legitimate fashion item seen more often in UK streets. I know we're seeing a few already but the worry is the front line health workers need these before the 'influencers' promote them on the gram.
Nike, Under Armour...flipping Gucci...they'll all be at it.

Ha 100% this. Made the same joke on twitter a few days ago. Deleted it as it felt a bit too cynical, but it's true. Mask fashion is gonna be quite insufferable, but if its done properly at least it'll keep people safe!

His mum died in a care home a few days after being discharged from hospital after being tested there as negative for the virus.
She had been admitted after a stroke 3 months earlier and his main complaint was she was moved to a care home for a 6 week intermediate assessment of future care needs following the end of medical treatment. He claimed that the assessment would have normally been undertaken in the hospital but she was placed outside specifically because of the pandemic and to avoid her dying in hospital. It is in fact common practice for hospital discharge to be arranged via a period of assessment in an adult care setting. He was also allowed to make unsupported accusations about the integrity of testing process, lack of use of PPE, hospital staff deliberately denying knowledge of the results etc. To see these serious allegations about the conduct of NHS and adult care staff being made on live TV without check, context or balance is scandalous.

Ah. Yes, that's very different to my bosses experience.
