Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

Heard from a friend of my lad's with connections to the club that the caterers have been told to prepare for a re-start early June.

Doesn’t mean much that.

We know they plan on trying to start in June so everyone has to get due warning for preparation.

Trying to restart in June and actually restarting in June are two very different things.

Mrs BillCarlisle said last night that she's noticed that after after a lifetime watching City I seem to have become completely pissed off with the way football has gone over recent years and in particular the way the FA/PL/UEFA are handling this crisis. She reckons that if somebody like me is fed up with it all it's a sign that the game is fcuked.
Very perceptive is my wife.

I think I share that sentiment, Bill. I wouldn't want to put my finger on what the FA/PL/Uefa and FICKFUFA are trying to achieve within the sport but I'm bloody sure that it isn't for the good of the game.

Maybe the delay in any details from this meeting is because our representatives are not excepting the proposals. Would be nice.

There are only two possible outcomes from today’s meeting in my opinion. Either the league is voided or the league is stopped. I cannot see that they can control the knock-on effects of the league being stopped, in particular relegation/promotion so my money is on it being voided completely. Weirdly, that might mean we have to scrub the league cup win from our records.

I think there is the option of postponing this season and picking it up again in the Autumn and playing the remaining games, and the FA cup spread out over what would be season 20/21. I don't know what they would do with the CL places for next season but the French and Dutch Leagues have voided so they haven't arrived at the point where it is clear who qualifies. I expect that Uefa will tell the world that from the PL MANUre and Liverpool have qualified but they can't be certain who else so they have limited PL involvement to two teams only!

Premier League clubs have agreed that chosen venues should be away from congested urban areas. The London Stadium, Emirates and the Etihad look certain to be chosen. No club will be allowed to play in their own own home ground.

This is shit,we lose home advantage that the other teams have already had

The restart in May very much depends on what the Government says next Thursday. This is the day when they will tell us what the next phase of the lockdown will be. The way things are at the moment, I can't see that team sports where social distancing cannot be done. This will totally impossible to start in June. All it needs is for 1 player to have the Covid19 virus and not be showing any symptoms, then all of a sudden within a couple of weeks there will be another spike. If that is then traced back to it being a footballer/ coaching team, football will have a lot to answer.

So me personally, I cannot see that football will be allowed to start even if it is behind closed doors. There are a couple of problems with this playing behind closed doors. The amount of police needed to keep the fans away to stop them from gathering will make this totally impossible to do. Then where do you get the ambulances from which have to be there for all the games. This is usually the St. John's Ambulance, but with nearly all of them helping out with ferrying the Covid19 patients to the hospital where are they going to get these ambulances from.

Most of the stadium in the Premier League are either in open spaces or are in the back streets of cities. This then makes it easier for fans to come together and thus cause problems, which may cause a strong police presence, when at this time they have better things to do, then police a football match.

The Premier League meeting has ended with clubs confirming their desire to complete the season. The Premier League will reportedly present their plan to the Government for approval on Friday. They are aiming for a May 18 training return and June 8 season restart. [
@MailSport

Utter fucking bollocks,hope the players refuse

BREAKING: Premier League games will be staged behind closed doors at neutral stadiums across the country if the Government gives football the green light to return. [via
@SunSport

I think there would be few fans who would have thought the PL would have done anything else! It has been obvious for quite a while as to where the FA and PL priorities lie!
