Oi kaz.
Where's the 'coughs' after last 24 hour tests?

To put things in perspective in how it is a free for all to slate the Government for everything, some people are now calling the Nightingale hospitals a waste of money...FFS
The idiot that asked that question last night really pissed off the medical chap, I bet he won't be given another question, a complete tool, and we still might need them anyway if it kicks off again.

Hopefully one of the "mistakes" won't be to release the lockdown too soon, because the damage that will cause will be worse than anything so far.

OK I was shooting from the hip so after my bike ride (27km) I went to the ONS all cause mortality data. Let's compare and contrast.

And 2010 was Flu was it?

I had a look, 26,000 Flu deaths (all ages) in the entire year.

Come on, we know Flu kills about 0.1% across a population and CV-19 kills somewhere between about 0.6-1% ish. I’ve not seen anything to suggest Flu is more fatal for those under 45 than CV-19.

Karen, let's do some very easy maths together ok?

Im going to use the term mean.

1) What is the mean time between infection and symptoms?
2) What is the mean time between symptoms and death?

answer 1) 5 days
answer 2) 18 days

add them together = 23 days.

So from catching it to dying takes on average 23 days.

3) When did the most people in English hospitals die from covid (the peak)?

answer 3) 8th April.

4) when did they catch it?

answer 4) 23 days before the 8th April which is 16th of March

Here comes the big one!

When did the UK go into "lockdown"?

I'll let you answer that yourself and see if you can draw any conclusions.

So the measures worked, as intended, and as expected.

A tiny percentage of young and/or healthy have died. Much fewer than a typical Flu causes in those groups.
Where’s the evidence that shows that?
My understanding is that the death rate amongst the young is still much higher than flu even if it’s only a small fraction of a percent.

Without a vaccine, I believe the UK will be looking to cycle social distancing/testing on and off through the Summer and Autumn so as to slowly build immunity in the population, because there is a strong likelihood of a 2nd peak in the Autumn / Winter. Testing may or may not protect against a 2nd outbreak.

But you think it is ok to risk players and everyone else plus their families to play football

This could well be me being dim but those 2010 figures don't add up at all ?
For 2010 I haven't got time to check but I suspect the figures along the bottom add up to the total in the right hand column, though what the excess refers to compared to the other two years I've no idea.

‘As President Trump presses for states to reopen their economies, his administration is privately projecting a steady rise in the number of cases and deaths from the coronavirus over the next several weeks, reaching about 3,000 daily deaths on June 1, according to an internal document obtained by The New York Times, nearly double from the current level of about 1,750.’

Christ. How could they even think about opening stuff back up again if that’s even remotely true?

Yes but if you look at the individual figures, eg for week 1, they don't come to anything like the total shown ?

The population is infected. You have to find a way to deal with it. 'Cycling' is how I think it will be approached.

How does footballers training put you, or me at risk? It's low risk for society because it's a closed group. Opening primary schools, which is being reported as an option for June 1st, affects everyone as it has the potential to affect R0.

It's always been about the resources required to put football on (medical staff, ambulances, tests etc) and how this is detrimental to the rest of society.

I honestly just find myself worrying at the thought of "going back to normal" and "reopening the country." It feels like it's gaining momentum based on the general public getting increasingly more pissed off at being stuck inside the house than the science. It really does seem like in a couple of months time we will be back at square one all locked inside the house again after the virus has a resurgence.

I'm with you on this. Just because people are getting fed up and are starting to go outdoors, whether they have decided themselves to return to work or visit friends because let's face it, many have and like most times it seems those in the minority have the loudest voices and want an end to this so called lockdown. Yes, I have missed my family. I have a nephew who has learning difficulties. He's coming up to 38 years of age but I haven't seen him for 6 weeks, that's the longest period of not seeing him ever and it's hurting, but it's been explained to him the reasons why we have to keep safe.
But, I am concerned about the easing of the current situation.
