Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

Oh my god, is that THE Simon Jordan? He's bang on the money plus I think he knows his onions as he's been there and done it owning a club.
I thought he was an absolute weapon but fuck me he's turned my opinion of him a full 180.

That was a really interesting discussion and he's said things straight from the hip, no bullshit and no filter, he's basically saying what we've said about the situation in that the press and sky have to keep football in the public domain and these stories from the press are fantasy.

I suggest people watch it, it's worth it.
I watch City on BeIN and Andy Gray has gone up (slightly) in my estimation over the last couple of seasons whilst nobhead Keys just spouts complete shit. I have only heard about Simon Jordan from what fellow City fans say on here......
However, having watched that show, I too have done a 180 degree shift. Keys appears to be talking sense as opposed to his usual party line bollocks. Simon Jordan was a breath of fresh air, telling it like it is and should be.
Kudos to all concerned. Now all we need is the "journalists" in the UK get on board with reality.

You can't blame Scudamore, he left in 2018. It is the clubs who drive the agenda, and the majority rules.
I think the penny is ever so slowly dropping with the FA, Premier League and the clubs. There is no vaccine for this virus, so there is no possibility of football crowds being allowed to assemble for the next 12-18 months when mass vaccination has happened. And this is best case scenario. I've read articles in the last couple of days suggesting that for all the optimistic mutterings of some politicians and some scientists, there are other leading scientists who say there may not be a vaccine in the foreseeable future - indeed maybe ever as there are viruses that have been around much longer for which there is no vaccine. So, we will have to wait for drugs that can treat the worst effects of the virus.

So, the football authorities explore football for TV audiences only - in the hope that it is an attractive enough product to be commercially viable for the likes of Sky. The only other option, as happened during the war, is no football. Now, I suspect that there are enough plastic armchair fans around the world, and enough who are addicted to gambling, to make it commercially viable. Thus, the authorities are exploring neutral venues, how many folk would be needed to put the game on, and how many Covid 19 tests they would need to access to make it possible. It is reported that they are even looking at playing these games in Australia. But they will need to be sure that all those needed to put the game on will be prepared to sign up to put their health at risk. Will they get the players and their unions onside and all the other folk they need? And will they get the special dispensation they will need from local and national Governments? And will they get the agreement and co-operation of medical authorities to use their resources? And what about the perception of the general public including the real fans and non fans? Is the spectacle of playing football really appealing while folk are dying in their thousands and key workers put their lives at risk? I doubt it for many, but - as I said above - appealing enough to encourage the FA, Premier League and clubs to explore viability.

As distasteful as I may find it, football is a business on which the livelihoods of many thousands depend and the governing bodies are wrestling with what they can do to carry on in this new world - just like every other business. My sympathies in the football world lie not with the Premier League clubs or the other top European clubs, but with the hundreds of lower league and non league clubs who will have no salvation via a TV deal and whose supporters are missing their fix of live football just as passionately as the fans of top clubs.

It is a Bio-Weapon manufactured in a Laboratory,designed to kill,thrive,mutate.

Right now we have no cure.

Hopefully that will change real soon.

Until then i think we all have to be cautious, not just to protect our selves.Protect our loved ones.

I want to enjoy football again, when i know there is no longer any danger to the footballers, their families, and us fans.We can then fill the ground, enjpy the game, and have a huge party that will go on for a couple of days to celebrate.
I'm not so sure of that Sidney, but never say never and all that.

I definitely recall reading something a long time ago (about 10 years-ish) that every major country on Earth was carrying out genetic/molecular studies/experiments on the family of viruses that form the common cold in order to "understand" it better. Who knows where those "studies" have led people. I'm not a full on conspiracy theorist, but I'm not so blinkered as to deny that it's beyond the realm of possibility that what you say might be the case. Governments have lied to the public about so many things that have gone on/are going on in the world and the US have a very dodgy historical record for this, maybe that's why Mr. Trumpton is jumping to that conclusion, because he tars every other nation with the same sticky brush due to his "knowledge" (loose term in relation to him) of what his lot have got up to over the years.

:D I am looking forward to the two day party though :D

The PL want the iconic picture of the scouse lifting the trophy. They are banking on the image whacking up the foreign TV money which is far more lucrative than the domestic one. It's all about greed over human life. A microcosm of the current government policy.
And every single business in the country wants the same thing.

I don't class footballers as essential workers but we're not talking about football taking the first step. You open according to importance. I get that. But you also open according to risk. There's little risk to society through 20 professional football clubs starting to play football.
Marvin, you cannot be serious, with all we know about how infectious this is and spread by people with no symptoms, have you got money on football starting again or something

Let the injuries commence, they do massage, physio, the ice baths etc for a reason

Some Premier League games are set to be shown on YouTube for free when the season restarts following the coronavirus lockdown. All 92 matches still due to be played are to be broadcast on Sky Sports, BT Sport, YouTube or Amazon. [
@SunSport

The BBC would potentially be permitted to show highlights more often but it is unlikely any games would be live on terrestrial TV. The government raised the idea of matches being available on free-to-air platforms and is happy that the majority will be on pay-TV. [

It's like a posh pub league !!
They missed out leave your can of beer behind the goal with your fags ..

Seriously that's not the way to treat top athletes

Germany have only been back in training a couple of days and ten cases of the virus have appeared , i would be amazed of Merkel gives the go ahead to re-start on Wednesday , as much as i dislike the German Rags i wouldnt wish this on their families , if the Bundesliga are allowed to go ahead , the lunatics have taken over the asylum.

Should this read ..."the government... is NOT happy that the majority will be on pay-TV" ?

What are you saying? Everybody in Europe should still be under lockdown because less than 1% of those tested are infected? Footballers are no different to any part of the population returning to work. What we all need is a way of quarantining those who are infected.

If there are significant risks to footballers through training together which can not be mitigated then they should not play but that goes for just about every group.

It's only the Mirror so make of it what you will but they have an article saying the 'Big Six' clubs are in conflict with the six teams at the bottom about neutral grounds. They say the top clubs are trying to split the bottom clubs by insisting that relegation would be based on current positions even if the season doesn't restart.

I would hope our club wouldn't be party to this but, hand on heart, I have a feeling we want the season to be completed by any means possible.

What a load of shite, all these sideline rules... then they get on the pitch, instinctively spit, mark one another, tackle each other... last min winner... dont even think about hugging.

JUST CALL IT FUCKING OFF
