Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

Any type of fucking around with the game itself in order to finish the season, whilst claiming it is all in order to protect the integrity, will result in a lot of people turning their back on football. You cant just change the fucking rules 3/4 of the way through.

Now rugby in trouble too. What this has shown is that most sports, not just football, are totally beholden to television companies. It’s all unsustainable, virus or not, it can’t continue.

This provides an opportunity to reset everything, free to air, reduce spiralling wages etc. I won’t hold my breath.

The 'it will lift the mood' stuff is also just a load of absolute shit.

What moods are going to be lifted when a hybrid, dead rubber group of games - in empty stadiums are played? If anything, it just reinforces the current situation further.
Agree.

If it's behind closed doors then just set up smaller regional competitions so most of the games mean something. There's no integrity trying to complete this season unless it is on the same basis as before and we are way off that possibility. If they want to try finishing this season in 2021 then so be it, but I reckon everyone bar the cultists will be past caring by then, if not already.

We are now in May, there isn't a Cat in hells chance we could squeeze all these unplayed games to finish the season as well as start another season just after. Football authorities seem to think they are a law to themselves, the government/s need to show leadership here and shut them up.

Players have a get out if they don't think it's safe.

Am I missing something with all of these proposed options?
1st of all if the league is resumed and finished, how can anybody claim that the integrity of the competition is upheld? The season spans continuously from August until May. With injuries and fatigue taking its toll on teams. These two factors alone would have made a difference to results played without the break in play.
Neutral grounds, behind closed doors, a compacted schedule, a shorter playing time, along with the human fear of not really knowing if the opposition is potentially so far an undetected carrier are not apart of the natural game.
It is not reasonable to suggest that continuing the season will have had the same outcome as if it would have been uninterrupted. Therefore the league should be null and void not only purely and simply to reduce the risk to human lives but because the final league standings can never be deemed to be a true representation of how the season would have panned out.
To Null and void the season is the only logical answer to a true football fan.

Premier League offered chance to finish season in Australia
The Premier League's been offered the chance of playing 9,000 miles away in Perth, Australia.

Top-flight clubs are currently looking at ways to complete the 2019-20 season, including using up to 10 neutral stadiums without fans.

However English football agent Gary Williams, who is based in the Australian city, has told BBC Radio 5 Live that he believes moving all remaining games there could be a realistic option.

He said he’s been having encouraging conversations with local politicians.

Speaking to 5 Live Sport’s Hugh Ferris, Williams said: “The flights would be direct from London to Perth and they’d have to do isolation when they got over here.”

This clip is from 5 Live Breakfast on Monday 4 May 2020.

Think it's more likely a clip from Little Britain.

It will lift the mood of the Liverpool infested media.

I find it incredible that the head of the pfa is unaware of the laws of the game. Suggested some games could be 30 minutes each way. The law states that a game must have 2 equal halves and for a male senior match must be a minimum of 35 minutes each way. Also, both sides need to agree to this prior to kick off.
Also have come across Kitson a few times in the past and cannot believe he is the alternative to Taylor. He is a nice guy but not the sharpest tool in the box.

As you say, a dead rubber played in a morgue environment under different rules all with the inherent risk of catching and spreading the virus. Totally absurd thinking by the governing bodies. Raise the spirits of Jo Blogs, so far from realitu

Quite sure the Premeir league can do a deal with Sky etc., to repay monies owed over the next couple of seasons , but they won't becasue its all about their greed.
The PFA wont do a thing because they are kept afloat buy television rights money
Players agents will do nothing because they want the 10% of players end of season bonus's
UEFA like the Premeir league will always put their "product" and profits before any other considerations

The common denominator as we know is money , the only way football will be closed down for a few months is if the relative governments like Holland, Belgium , France refuse to allow sport to re-start , if Merkel & Boris agree to a July / August return for football then money has simply won over the health of their people, which is pretty disgusting
Merkel's statement on Wednesday is paramount and i believe whatever the German's decide others will follow suit.
Nobody has looked at the state of football should Sky demand repayment. A full cashback payment would make the product less attractive whenever next season is which in turn would hit Sky in the pocket.

Just null & void with the 25% or so of overpaid monies as you say 'paid back' or slightly reduced payments to clubs over the next 3/4 years.

I'm loving the 30 min each way idea what are they shooting at after 60 mins across the pitch?
Maybe 4 goals is the way forward :+)
