Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

Bullshit.

There's not one person in the world, let alone in here, that would rather this situation than Liverpool winning the title.

I'd give anything for normality.

It's just simply not right to prioritize let alone play sports in this current, global, environment.

I'd rather a person surviving all this over a football club. Even at that, football will survive. It may take years of recovery but do you know what you can't recover from? Dying.

Here endeth the discussion.

No easy way out of this. If as reported “no relegation” just decide the top 4 then the question has to be asked - why? That’s not integrity in sport

I’d defer until at least September and, if you can, finish all the leagues. If that impacts on the next season then truncate that from the start so everyone knows the rules.

problem is that that this will clash with uefa who will want their pots finished and started again in full

so, failing that, apply a force majeure principal and void the season.

there is a genetic factor, you need to read more, they are people in a high risk catagory
I am not ruling a genetic factor out but I am pretty certain that the main reason why so many black people have died in the UK is because they are doing the jobs that put them in the frontline, or because they live in the dense housing of New York, East London etc whilst the rich guys can move out or are naturally distanced.

if you know of, or have come across a genetic explanation I'd be interested to hear it.

Are you arguing that black players are going to be more susceptible? The overwhelming reason why black and Asian people have borne the brunt of the virus is because of the social position they find themselves in. i.e. they work disproportionately in more exposed positions.

There maybe a small genetic factor. There's certainly a medical factor re age and genders (ACE2 expression) but I haven't come across anything yet to suggest that medically black and Asian footballers would be more predisposed to infection that white players.
The club doctors in their letter to the PL have asked the question “Given there is evidence of disproportionate mortality and morbidity amongst certain communities, should we consider heightened susceptibility for BAME group?

Bundesliga will resume on 15th May. Germans are Germans. Everything's structured, everybody follows the orders. Look at Spain and Italy. Chill, relaxed Southern mentality and that's costed them heavily.

But you then have the same problem in August. Football needs to figure this out just like primary school children, teachers, and every single occupation.

We are all going to end the lockdown in some shape or form but some people are very anxious. I get that. Quite willing to accept I am wrong. This stuff is just argument to figure it out.

So you are not ruling it out then, how many black players need to get sick, pass it to a white player, his wife ,another black person at the ground who is in the more deprived category or even die before you would be convinced
I think you are on the wind up so I am out

i think the not isolating anyone other than the eleven i think are covid positive which is a clear breach of the rules, shows they were going to resume anyway, hope we are sensible enough to give it at least a month and see what happens before we decide, what am I saying, course we wont

Yet more people have died in the UK
Yet more people have died in the UK
Everything what happens in life is a reflection of the cultural norms of that country. British people don't come across as relaxed as the Spaniards or Italians but maybe a bit more egoistic and have that "we'll do it our own way" mentality. When everyone started to go into lockdown, Mr. Boris did the complete opposite. Don't attack me please.

I don’t think that each country is reporting deaths in the same way so it’s almost impossible to compare deaths and make any judgement yet. Does anyone believe circa 4K deaths in China. In the Uk we appear to be reporting any death anywhere where covid is suspected, not sure that’s the case in Spain or Italy.

Do you ot think that the softer start to theockdown has achieved a better adherence ultimately? If we'd had a stricter lock down to start with, people would be less inclined to adhere to it and also they would have had s couple extra weeks away from any financial support package? . Italy didn't have good adherence to there lockdown

if the FA are going down the non relegation route then you have to ask why, there are six teams in a bad position, thats near to 1/3 of the table, the FA know full well all these teams will not entertain a re start should their be a vote, they will vote against,if another four clubs join them then they have the majority, the teams likely to join them are the ones who are in 2nd 3rd and 4th so one more team who simply has nothing to play for such as Everton and we know where there vote is going, this is the reason for non relegation they know full well it will not be backed, the truth is all they want is that 1st place cementing and the brown envelopes can be passed, its all about money, they dont care who dies or who gets very poorly they want the money which VAR has worked so hard for from day 1,its as clear as day no other explanation

To be fair they need 14 teams to carry the vote through
So in theory only need 7 to vote against the re start and its a non runner. Looks like there is already 6.

But whether football plays or not is not going to impact the general population. The US death forecast has just been doubled overnight because of the wider opening up of states. Stuff like opening schools, shops, factories. Increasing contact on tubes, trains etc is what impacts the infection rate. And there is little alternative. You can't hold it off forever or institutions like the health service, banking systems and the architecture of the system will stop functioning.

The quality of our lives matter. Football, society, economy, culture. You can't just think that if you sit with your mask on inside your house for 12 months that life in the outside world will continue. We have to find a way of coping with it.

Hopefully the way out will be a vaccine but this could we with us for a very long time. And all the things you value in your life have to be conserved and protected.

Yes can see all that and years gone by that be my stance.. When you get older you realise life is more than sport! Sport will be back why are people so impatient for it to come back? It’s not let’s get back to normality or to lift the country it’s more to do about the money that just irks me. Give liverpool the title be it by PPG not arsed.

Inevitably though I think what you posted will probably end up happening sport back people back to work for a few months then the second wave will hit then We will be in lock down again unless there is a miracle and we get a vaccine.

People who think var has been bent in favour of Liverpool are nearly as bad as flat earthers and David Icke nuts. They are 25pts clear because they’ve been the best team, just like we were in the 100 pts season.

stop crying about it ffs.

Football can’t restart and giving them the trophy and starting to make a plain to get the next season underway and safely Is the only sensible thing to do.

have you been in hiding since day 1 of this season or in hiding when we played CL last season,,just asking like

That is the real reason some fans don't want to restart the football but they are going to given the title whichever way it goes.

Those who don't want football to start should ask themselves what they want in August when the season kicks off again. Are you going to postpone that as well? Football clubs will not survive, just like any other occupation/ industry if you just give up.
Your problem is you are too narrow minded and think there can only be one reason why folk on here don't want footy just now. It might be worth thinking a little bit more broader and consider what is actually occuring around you, me and everyone else in this country and until that landscape is a little more understood and under control, footy should not be even on the agenda
