Running thread

Had a really lazy week so wanted to push myself today to get my head back into it. Managed just over 14k in 1 hour 16. Really happy with it but was about at the end of my stamina by the end. Feeling great now, but my legs are stiff as anything.

Nice one. I’m tempted to get my km up into double figures, but I’m doing park run equivalents of 5km/half an hour most days on roads and I’m wary of stepping it up to 10km and getting injured, esp as carrying a bit of timber. I’d rather manage 5km most days than do 10km+ less often.

Managed to get my km/hr speed back up over 12 yesterday which I’m pleased with as it gets me into the 24mins plus for park runs.

I try and do one long one a week and then throw in 2 or 3 shorter 5/6/7k ones a bit quicker. Averaged just under 5:30k's today so hoping when i do some shorter ones i can up my speed to 5min k's comfortably.

Yeah, tbf that might be a way forward for me too, just doing one longer run each week

Cheers and well done on your achievement.

Looking to do the Wales Coastal Path in one go. Got the first half planned with accommodation (mix of camping and B&B where there is that option). The path is way-marked and a mix of cliff walks, promenades, roads, fields and industry so looking forward to it. 870 miles over around 60 days.
You'll be in for a lot of suffering and tough days, but once you're finished you'll back at one of the best experiences of your life! Nothing else I've done beats the feeling of a long distance hike like that.

Went after work and only a mile in my calf is tight and sore. I tore the soleus in the other fucker 4 years ago so dont want a repeat of that. Anyone got top tips for a sore calf?

Thanks mate. I was hoping to do it this year but certain things pout paid to it so hopefully I can get a couple of weeks unpaid next year to add to my leave.

What did you do?

No worries... I’d get used to carrying the kit you’re taking as soon as you can. You can ditch half the stuff then that you’re never going to need lol

See, it's that kind of advice!! :)

Cheers.

Im struggling at the moment, have been for about 4/5 weeks. I rested for 4 weeks but yesterday decided to get out and test it, felt reasonably okay, the pain was there but really mild. woke up today and its sore. icing, foam rolling, stretching, tens machine, just trying everything I can.

Put it down to muscle gain mate, it’s what I tell myself.....

Hopefully - either that or I didn’t have a big enough dump before the weigh-in ;)

To be honest, I think doing next to nothing in the preceding 3 days wiped out most of the good work of the previous 4. Anyway, been back on it every day since Monday and doing the same routine of 3 stints per day on the treadmill, running the equivalent of around a 10k each day. I’ve sacked off doing one of the preset programs as the one I tried the other day wiped me out before I got half way through so it’s just 3 straightforward running stints. Happy to report I’ve lost a few pounds since Monday morning.

Interesting to read some of the experienced runners on here have days where they just can’t get going. I thought it would only be lazy fuckers like me who would have that issue.
