I’m a big Tory and I like Piers which probably puts me in a protected group. The govt’s initial response to the virus was pretty much indefensible so fairplay to Piers for giving them a grilling. He takes the Paxman approach way too far and while it’s always entertaining to watch a minister squirm, his interviews are unlikely to deliver insight or revelations that a more subtle questioner might elicit.
That said, the govt’s daily briefings have been an absolute disgrace - basically a party political broadcast with a couple of wishy washy questions thrown in at the end so as an antidote to that almost Pravdaesque propaganda I think Piers has captured the frustration of a nation in his style of questioning on the pathetically rare occasions when a senior minister is available for interview.
