wow, that kid got scalped proper. if cops were that close, that`s attempted murder. Fuck only noticed he was standing doing nothing and got shot.

Beanbag pellets should be outlawed.

They may be 'non-lethal', but they're certainly life changing at a certain proximity.

The amount of physical damage I've seen from them is shocking!

It's only a matter of time until a death is caused by this projectile.

Lethal with 40 yards for some, that kid was just standing there when some **** of a failed policeman/person fucked him up proper. SAD

I wasn't trying to be consistent, I was simply calling you out for downplaying Churchill's flaws as 'saying a few nasty things', when he contributed to millions of lives being very negatively impacted or destroyed. He also did some very good things I agree.

Thanks for doing a pretty mediocre job of it!

Joking aside, I am going to do more reading about Churchill’s track record (outside his WW2 leadership).

Are we going to remove every statue, street sign, building associated with the slave trade era?

suppose most of Liverpool, Glasgow and a large number of Manchester buildings are going then??

Let’s just delete our history.

Obviously not.

I do think that a known slave trader who purposefully drowned innocent people has no need for a statue in a modern British city though.

I’m not for how it was ripped down and thrown in the river though.

On to Churchill, he was literally the only world leader against Nazi Germany for a whole year, without him millions more would have died and the world would be horrifically different.

Sure he didn’t do anything it stop the Bengal famine and said some very questionable things by modern standards but the above outweighs the bad in most people’s opinions, in defeating the worst racism the world has ever seen.

I agree it should have been put in a museum. But where does it end though?

pretty much every era/ period in our history people were associated with something bad. Every historical figure from the 1700s could probably be linked to the slave trade. Should every statue be removed of them?

should that be extended to others eras. Medieval for example ?? Where mass killings took place? Previous kings and queens statues? The pyramids were built by slaves.. obviously I’m using lots of different examples there

surely we should be keeping these and using them to learn and remember our history. Otherwise we’ll end deleting our history and it being forgotten.

End it with statues of slave traders that did more bad than good.

It's nothing to do with reparations for the past nor is it just an American problem. You don't think there's a systemic racial problem in other parts of the world? I'm lucky enough to have been born white and have been able to live a comfortable life. I certainly wouldn't want to switch places with a black man of my generation and until we can say it doesn't matter what colour skin you were born with to get a fair chance in life then a problem still exists. Jane Elliott puts it far better than I could:

So going round in an aggressive mob, destroying national monuments is the way to go about it is it? There’s an element ( maybe small ) who are clearly pushing to create a division. Most people myself included, don’t even notice if we walk past someone who is black or Asian or chinese it’s just not an issue to me. Out of interest, how do you propose change?

why just slave traders? Why not previous leaders?. Plenty of previous kings we’ve had who committed awful things and were a huge part of the slave trade

Well do you have specifics?

The bloke that ended up in the river earned his fortune from slavery and whilst there’s a statue because he then used that money for some good, he’s only famous because of slavery.

A king that does bad is famous because he’s a king.

most kings or queens from the 1700s who were involved in the British empire

Slavery was abolished in the UK in 1833 so we can only discuss those prior to that.

Again, people involved in slavery at the time. when it was a social norm, may have done greater things outside of the trade, like the founding fathers of the US but Colston was only famous due to money he earned as a slave trader and a notoriously brutal one at that.

Elizabeth and Mary both carried out religious genocides. Those were pretty bad.
