Definitely the right thing by walking away. 100 per cent. I meant some players are not worth walking away from. Imagine a KDB bidding war in 2019(If he was still playing for Wolfsburg) with Liverpool United Real Madrid in the mix. That's the player worth throwing a 100 mil for. And we definitely do great in the attack and Midfield department.See -B. Silva KDB Jesus or Sane
It's just the defence I want us to do better. Like a Koulibaly transfer which will make our defence world class and give space for Garcia and other youngsters to develop. And its better said than done. Dealing with Napoli is a pain in the arse but that's just another topic
Defenders are different for us just because of how difficult it is to play under Pep. You shouldn't compare United or Liverpool to what our standards are for our defenders. United suck at holding on to the ball. They counter attack. So when Maguire defends he usually has his whole team defending in front of him. Even Liverpool it's easier to play as a defender. If their CB's get pressed they just boot it to Mane and Salah and the team Gegenpress from there to put pressure on the other team.
It's difficult to play under Pep when first he wants you to play out from the back under all circumstances. You aren't allowed to boot it. You need to be aware of your positioning at all times. We play it forward and then at times the midfielders have to play it back to the CB's or keeper and have to start all over again. The CB's have to play a high line and when the ball is lost they are immediately exposed and have to defend running back to their own goal. There are a lot of good defenders that would fail in our system. Pep had Benatia at Bayern who was highly rated at the time, but after a while Pep preferred Javi Martinez and even Alaba or Kimmich as his CB's. IMO when it comes to the next CB we are being extra cautious. Even with Koulibaly there is no guarantee he'd hit the ground running. Just shows how good Laporte is BTW.
Danilo was a panic buy. The plan was to have Dani Alves (who knew Pep's system) split time with Walker for a few years then we could invest in another RB, but Alves screwed us and wen to PSG. Danilo was okay but wasn't really great at defending or attacking. He was stuck in the middle. Cancelo can still be good for us. Like many players the time is needed to adjust to the tactics.
