Be really curious to know what's happened with Bernardo. Seemed a legitimate, if odd, excuse early on with the whole Mendy stuff, but that was an awful long time ago now. Best part of a year ago, and the world has been through an awful lot since then and moved on from the incident. We're in a pandemic and we've been through a lockdown, which he spent travelling in sunny climates with his best friends - there is no way that is still playing on his mind anymore.

His form has absolutely tanked. He was sensational last season and he's gone from looking world class to someone I actually shrug at if he starts. Hugely disappointing.
Personally have always found it difficult to accept this reasoning, because he wasn't playing well even before all of that happened. He got a hat trick when we beat Watford 8-0, fair enough, but other than that he had a very underwhelming first few weeks of the season - people were complaining/asking questions about it in the first 10 or so pages of this thread. The tweet didn't really change anything imo, he just carried on being underwhelming.

Bernardo was consistently switching between midfield and right wing last season and he was putting in top class performances in both positions. Why is it affecting him now?

Bernardo went on his best run when he was playing RW last season after Kev came back. From the 20th January to the end of the season he only played in central midfield once.

No you are wrong.

His goals and Assist dried up starting around January/February. When he started to be pushed out to the wings because Kevin was coming back.

During the April away game at Old Trafford, Bernardo started the game on the right wing. We did not look like scoring.
It was once Fernandinho was Injured that Sané was brought on & Bernardo was pushed down to the KDB midfield role, with Gundo as DM.

it's from that position that Bernardo scored the opening goal.

4 of Bernardo's 15 G+A in the league from January 14th to the end of the season.

11 of of the 15 was before January...

If you want to simplify his game down to just G+A go for it, but Bernardo at his best is so much more than that. His ball retention, his work rate, his intelligence, his touch and ability to dribble around 2/3 people keeping the ball. That's what I've always thought of when thinking of Bernardo. That's the stuff that's gone from his game, and that was there in abundance in the run in last season, regardless of whether there was more or less goals in the tight, tiring and tough run in or not. He was immense in the final run in last year. We all know that. Those stats don't show the whole picture at all. Of course City's goals largely dried up - it affected the whole squad, not Bernardo. It was a grind that run in, cos tension, tiredness and nerves kicked in. But he was a big game player in big moments for us.

Yeah I agree. As I said though, it was a vaguely legit one that could be argued. Certainly can't anymore though.

It's also the position where he played his entire career, and tore us apart for Monaco.

But now apparently he can't play there, so it's Pep's fault or something. It's ridiculous.

Bernardo Silva told ManCity.com: "You have some areas on the pitch where you feel a little bit more comfortable, but me I've played almost all my career on the right side as an offensive midfielder, or number 8. That's where I feel more comfortable.

Fortunately Ezzy, this is real football, not your little football manager games, so we can judge performances off a lot more than goals and assists.

Bernado is one player who has deffo been feeling the accumulated tirednes of the previous season. Big part of our incredible post xmas run in last year - home game against the dippers he was an absolute whirlwind kicking fuck out of players twice his size. Not quite seen that this year.

Bernardo has basically zero pace. The reason he is being pushed out to wings is because of his ball retention and his dribbling, along with his defensive work.

but Bernardo's dribbling is sorta like Kevin's (even though Bernardo has a better close control) It is not like Mahrez's.

please answer my previous question:
How would Kevin perform if he was rotated primary on the wings for the best part of 1 year and a half?

Bernardo Silva told ManCity.com: "You have some areas on the pitch where you feel a little bit more comfortable, but me I've played almost all my career on the right side as an offensive midfielder, or number 8. That's where I feel more comfortable.

He's just been on holiday for 3 months...

I don't get the point you're trying to make? You've literally just quoted Bernardo saying he's comfortable playing in a number of positions? And now you want me to say playing in a number of positions has affected him?! You want me to directly contradict Bernardo's own words?

Also, some players are more versatile than others. Bernardo is likely more versatile than KDB, as by his own admission he's been comfortable playing a number of positions throughout his career. Also, fwiw, I think KDB would be fine if asked to be on the right and whip crosses in, but once again, a weird comparison that ignores the fact that everyone is unique.

Bernardo was excellent out wide last season. I watched the games. I saw it with my own eyes. As did we all.

Wing or midfield?

which is his best position?

You've gone back into FIFA mode. The role he plays on the right of our front 3 is almost identical to the one he played on the right of the 442 at Monaco.

I remember an interview from a few months ago where he admitted that they 'gave up' on the title race too soon. That could maybe indicate mental fatigue or apathy once he (and perhaps some of our other players) accepted Liverpool were gonna win basically every game.

Personally though I think most of the team started to look defeated after the Norwich and Wolves losses... Just speculating, but maybe the lack of confidence in the defence + the pressure Liverpool were applying affected him more than a lot of the others. If you're already underperforming, and you look back and see Otamendi sliding about on his arse and Mendy giving the ball away about 10 times a game while Liverpool aren't dropping a single point, you're could, whether it be conciously or subconciously, start feeling a bit defeated.

@twosips
The guy literally says that he has played all of his career at:
  • offensive midfielder ( Attacking Midfielder)
  • number 8 ( Central Midfielder)
"That's where I feel more comfortable"

playing RW in a Pep team means being isolated by the touchline for long parts of a game.

Bernardo's dribbling + his close control is the main reason Pep puts him on the RW and not Kevin.

Kevin's position:

You've gone back into FIFA mode. The role he plays on the right of our front 3 is almost identical to the one he played on the right of the 442 at Monaco.
we do not play the same way as Monaco you know that right?

Ezzy mate, get back to your football manager games lad because real football and real facts is obviously not for you.

Bernardo said in the interview you quoted he is comfortable playing on the right offensively and in the middle of the park as an 8. He said both are where he feels most comfortable. He had barely if ever played central midfield before coming to City and his best time in a City shirt, the 2019 run in, he was playing 99% of it on the RW. He is a very good central midfielder. He is a very good attacking midfielder ON THE RIGHT. Like he said in the interview you quote.

If you want to keep ignoring this, thats fine, but maybe this forum is not for you.
