Running thread

Not been out for few days, thought up and out this morning. Usually have light breakfast, coffee and chill before going out. Straight up, dressed and out this morning. 5 min walk to warm up and 3.6 miles doing laps of small park. Fastest 5k, fastest 1 mile and fastest 2 mile, fastest, longest run on Strava. 97% in zone 5. 58 years old and shattered

Two nice runs this weekend.

11k on Saturday, including a slow start, slighting increasing the pace until two faster Ks around 4:30 pace. Main purpose to determine my heart rate zones to plan further training.

Today a nice 7.5k recovery run. After great advice on here, went out early morning on an empty stomach.

Just done 8.5mile which is my longest run to date - 1:16:42 (fucking load of ups and downs).

Blisters on toes, swollen knees and boiling hot but feeling pretty good..........

Unbelievable - however did you just post that to take the gloss off my personal best at 8.5m? ;-)
Ha. No, sorry about the timing. It's great when you run a new PB distance. I know it spurred me on when training for my first marathon. Over the weeks the long run gets longer and it's all new. Ultra distance is insane though and not healthy I think. Marathon is my limit.

Keep up the long runs. I don't think you should have blisters though. Are your shoes too small? A half size bigger than normal could be better for running. And wear proper running socks. Your feet will harden with time and distance.

I agree - in fact, I even think the marathon is an absolutely mental and unnatural distance. I always feel like I've killed myself during and after a marathon. I'll often do 20 miles or more in training but the extra to take it up to 26.2 always seems like climbing Everest. I guess I do race them pretty hard though. Also, the painful recovery time of about a month is another factor that acts as a reminder of what you've put yourself through!

I did 16k on Saturday and 7k on Sunday. I might go out in half an hour and get back just in time for the big announcement.

Yeh that is insane time and distance from that guy (the mere thought of running for an entire day is exhausting alone).

Already sighted the next bit to extend the distance at some point, just need to ensure I get out and do some ticking over in the meant.

Definitely not too small as I bought on the larger side - it could be argued that they are ever so slightly too big (but not sure Nike are going to make me some tailor made). ;-)

To be fair, they lool alright this morning, bought some new sport socks before yesterdays run (normal sock length ones as the back on the trainer's is quite high and gave me blisters on the back of my ankles when wearing ankle socks).

I may just bite the bullet and buy some more 'proper' running socks before my next lengthy run.

Cheers for the advice..........

Also smear vasoline lightly over blister area next time to protect that area.

Try Decathlon. I got some kiprun running so socks recently. Not expensive.

Got out for my usual 5k today. It's going well at the moment - i'm not really too fussed about doing it in sub 30 mins and tend to come in a few minutes after. I'm doing this for weight maintenance rather than training for any future events. Possibly a post for the overall fitness thread but I have started to try real push ups, as in all the way down and back up. I try for 100 but i'm happy to do them gradually (10 sets of 10 over a period of time). Still alcohol free as of 30th May too.
