Summer Transfers

Let's be honest. Starting off the transfer window by signing Ferran Torres and Nathan Ake isn't going to send shock waves around the footballing world. Doesn't mean they can't turn into good signings.
Do we ever send shock waves around the world?
As far as I can tell our signings normally get lambasted...
KDB; "Manchester City paying so much money for Kevin De Bruyne is an absolute joke." Paul Merson
Aguero; "Aguero will be highest profile signing of summer so far if it happens. Still think Charlie Adam to Liverpool could be best though" Oliver Holt

Just to name a few.

People like Ake and Torres would be joining with a point to prove, a big step up for them but under Pep you are almost guaranteed to improve and if we get them both for around 60m then its good business imo.

How often do we see big buys hyped up by the media fail to live up to the mountain of pressure? Very often.

Torres is considered the next big thing in Spain. Sorry that the news hadn't made it up to England yet...that's a good thing for us anyhow. He'll slot in quietly with his head down. No media pressure. No media expectations. No high price tag pressure. Perfect conditions to succeed.

Ake as Ottamendi replacement is a decent signing if cheap enough, he is younger with better footballing skills association trained and on lower wages, hopefully we will never see him play with Laporte in front of him

Think we'll see a fair bit of him rotating with Laporte, sometimes playing in a 3 and sometimes at leftback.

Ha i remember those

Who said what about Yaya Toure as well - something about paying so much for an average defensive midfielder or something like that

Didnt Merson also say something like I woudlnt pay money to watch him (referring to KDB)

I think he did say that and something along the lines of I thought the KDB price was in Lira not pounds.

We can go through a whole list of non galactico singings that have won us trophies De Jong, Kompany, Zaba, Silva and Toure maybe less so ,Barry , Milner , Dzeko ,Demichelis, loads of them helped make up some very good teams

Apparently the Rags are interested in Kondogbia.. Think we could offload Otamendi to Valencia in some capacity if Kondogbia goes through?

That is my biggest worry, rotating the CB`s is nearly as big a fuck up as having 2 first choice goal keepers, the CB, goal keeper triangle is the only positions where spending big does not guarantee success, time together does, experience and understanding.

I am so totally with you there pal. It frustrates the hell out of me week in, week out. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"!!

I would be over the moon with Ake, KK, Torres and Luiz this window. The cherry on top would be someone like Havertz, Martinez or Aouar

When I look back to April, so much positivity, spending big money to get the players we needed to challenge once again, plus younger ones for the future.
Now we are down to a “relegated” CB who cannot head, a young winger who is unproven, and we struggle to sign our major target because we think he is too expensive.
Havertz was described as a generational talent we must have, now it is we have Phil.
How times have changed..... Seriously, with Ake, Koulibaly and Torres, ca we really challenge once again ?
The value of addition by subtraction is always greatly underestimated.

What we generally require is quicker football in possession, players who attack defenses with the dribble to destabilize banks of defenders and create creases, and intense high pressure when out of possession.

To do the above, you need younger, agile, aggrssive and effort from players. Older players are not as capable of doing this. So if you add Ferran, Foden, Luis, and KK plus a back up left CB. And you lose some older or slower players.

You can improve dramatically from those small changes.

What if you rotate them as a unit?
Ederson walker koulibaly laporte alaba (or whichever lb we get)
Steffan cancelo garcia/stones ake mendy

If they train as units and rotate as unit, who knows haha just a thought
