Summer Transfers

Steffen
Pau Torres
New LB (Alaba would be perfect in Leroy deal)
Havertz
Ferran Torres

would be delighted with that!

Yes because if Marquinhos, who is still so young for a CB & is not a "commanding Leader" yet IMO, gets injured at the wrong time...

Kimpembe
Kouassi (18)
Diallo

Kehrer

then your going into a high pressure Champions League with these guys as your CB choice.
Very concerning...
I think Kouassi knew that, Leonardo especially knew that(with a successful CL campaign being a big step to keeping Mbappé)

But Kouassi DID want to stay, despite the agent trying to be greedy. The sporting project unfortunately could not be slowed down just to give him what he wanted.

Koulibaly is your priority target. He wants to leave Napoli. PSG is the only club interested in him.
Marquinhos was mainly played in the midfield the last two years. Only went back as a CB when Thiago Silva or Kimpembe is injured.
The guy who was injured a lot is Diallo. And Kouassi has actually all his chances against him. He hasn't impressed, always injured. Beautiful on the ball but disastrous defender. Another waste of 30 M+ by PSG with this guy.

And yeah, as you pointed out, Marquinhos is far from being a top CB. So, Kouassi opposition was no top CB at PSG. He has no excuse about competition or playing time at PSG, really, especially with a coach who likes him and trust him. How many 17 y.o. enjoyed this treatment at a big club ?

Year after year, i wish PSG would just stop their academy. I have rarely seen as many ungrateful young players than in our academy. 0 loyalty, nothing.
In this big business football, the academy is pretty much the only place you could still hope and feel there would still be some attachment to the club, the region, etc. However, even when they are given trust, it amounts to nothing.

On Koulibaly, i'm agreeing with all your points. I was even saying last year, amid de Ligt saga, that PSG was trrying hard for Koulibaly. The player prefers the PL though. Also, two years ago, he was an absolute monster. He nullified our attacks almost by himself. Nevertheless, this year he was as bad as Kimpembe. Dunno about his price, seems overpriced to me. Would rather we spend on proven, top midfielder instead.

PSG produce an insane amount of talents. There will be another Kouassi coming thru before long.. is it worth taking such a risk to not replace Thiago Silva, just to keep Kouassi?

He wanted to stay but he knows that PSG not having a TOP CB is going to put IMMENSE pressure on him & the club.

a club trying to win the Champions League is not going to have a 18 year old as 3rd choice CB and be able to..

...provide him “with a stable environment,” which was apparently his number one criteria to select his next move.

As I said before, He wanted to stay despite greedy agents. Can you blame him for leaving based on his criteria above?

TBH @Parisian the issue of young players and loyalty to their clubs is a thorny topic when looked at through the eyes of a ) the supporter who has an " invested love of the club " and b) the player who does not necesarily share those feelings. Lots of players will do what is right for them without the emotional attachment to the club and fans feel let down by those actions.

I share some of your feelings on the subject being a long standing supporter of City and it being a big part of my life.

As i said, i have no problem with our youth leaving as long as the club at least get some compensation.

You lost Sancho who turned out to be a top players. You still got some fee, however small.

I would expect academy players, even if they leave, asking for their future club, to negociate a fee, however small, as a good gesture. I remember when we bought Hoarau, he was almost out of contract. He did renew for one year in his club in order for us to pay a small fee to his "academy" club (he came from La Réunion so his true professional academy club was in the main country and not in his island).

You don't care because you support a PL club. PSG has enough money no to care too much about Kouassi departure. However, this trend of foreign clubs taking our youth players as younger age than before is becoming unsustainable for French clubs. French clubs rely on their talent they subsequently sell for a decent fee abroad. Now, we can't even get them to play for our clubs who have nurtured them before they are raided.

Just see Michut in your list, he is even younger. What is the point in taking years forming players to get next to nothing ? Kouassi is not near as important as any PSG starters but this kind of case touch me a lot more than Kimpembé leaving for example. Kimpembé has actually fulfilled the purpose of his formation, Kouassi did not.

We have promised Michut that he can be in the first team in 2 years time. A first team that will have lot of academy players playing an important role. I do not think the same can be promised to him at PSG.

It took Pep 4 years to get to this point. We have lost many talented players along the way.

we are about to lose a 16 year old Manchester born Striker. We rated him incredibly highly. But he is joining RB Leipzig for free.

as long as clubs do not treat their prised Academy players like a "new signing" many will continue to leave.
If Kouassi had been giving consistent game time as a starter this season(let's say for a good part of the season) and made to feel that he indeed can replace Thiago, I'm sure he would've felt confident to sign.

But how can Kouassi feel Confident that PSG trust him to replace Thiago Silva, If he barely Played?

as I said This takes times to achieve...

Truly now after 4 years at the club, will Pep start treating the elite Academy kids like new signings...

They finally have a concrete pathway beyond "Be patient & wait for your time." PSG is not there yet & cannot give up challenging for trophies to make that happen.

Eduardo Camavinga (18) : Defensive Midfielder
  • Real Madrid are our main competitor for him
  • The club is willing to challenge anyone to secure Camavinga's signature
  • City are ready and willing to pay a substantial fee
  • We are confident of beating Real Madrid to his signature

Alessandro Bastoni (21)
: Centre-Back
  • No competition for his signature

  • So we have to pay a pretty penny

Alessandro Bastoni (21) : Back-up For Aymeric Laporte

Philippe Sandler (23) : Replacement For John Stones

  • Philippe Sandler's success on loan at Anderlecht was cut short by injury.
  • Sandler's 91.5 total pass % was third among all Centre-Backs of the Belgian league.
  • Those with a higher rate had half the attempts.
  • Furthermore, his 84.2 forward pass %, and his # of final third passes, were both first overall among CBs.
  • "Sandler is the best passer among all central defenders of the Belgian league."

THE BEST IS YET TO COME

This is all lovely but 9 CB options? 7 actual CBs all expecting first team game time is insanity. THB's almost certainly going on loan and I'd imagine it'd be the same for Kouassi, also do not see the club keeping Sandler here in the coming season considering his injury trouble. Garcia/Dinho as starters? I mean come on, its bold putting your name to this but it's just a bit mad innit? After all the injury issues we've had we're going to rely on a 19 year old, a 35 year old and a lad who played a couple of games for a struggling Anderlecht before getting seriously injured.

This doesn't make sense. He is a 17 y.o. and has played more in the league than Foden at the same age. His playing time is comparable to Foden or Garcia who are older than him.

Are you advocating for Foden and Garcia leaving City because they are nto trusted ?
