Nathan Ake

I think even people like myself who rate him as a player didn't expect to shell out that much for him.

But we saved a fair bit on Ferran Torres so swings and roundabouts.

£40mil is a bit steep considering Bournemouth’s relegation but his wages will be a lot lower than VVD’s, Maguire’s or Laporte’s.

Maguire was great in the World Cup and played well for Leicester. £80mil was still over the top.

I was thinking it would be around £35 mill and good value at that. Wouldn’t say paying £41mill is a huge jump or worth worrying about, especially once the extra is amortised over 5 years.

So Doyle goes to barca stays there 6 years and he’s home grown etc bullshit, I guarantee if he’d of gone to the dippers or rags you’d of all been saying he’s not home grown etc football rules are wank at the best of times. As the rules stand he is I understand that but it’s bull shit
There’s probably a few clouds in the sky you could shout at as well bud.

End of the day if ake does come to us which is highly likely then we get behind him and support him . I think £41 million is a good deal for a very good player . Getting relegated doesn’t make you a bad player because if they got another point or two then it wouldn’t even be debated

Totally agree, he's a good player whatever the fee, he's been more consistent than Stones and Oti in a poorer team. They wouldn't have been relegated if the Sheff Utd goal at Villa that Hawkeye missed had stood, and his fee would have been higher or he would be moving at all.

Just wondered as well, is he classed as homegrown, which we'll need if Stones goes.

That is 'homegrown'.

The other category is 'club trained'

I don't like multiple interchange references, homegrown seems to be the term for the national leagues.

‘Home grown’ is only used negatively in order that they don’t use the word foreign.

25 man squad consists of:

4 Club Trained players
4 Association Trained players
17 Non Home Grown players.

Yes, find it odd his value is dependant for some on whether the goal line technology worked or didn't in the Sheffeild United game against Villa.

The thing that really excites me about Ake is that he has had to be a leader at Bournemouth. One of Stones and Otamendi will still be here at the end of the transfer window and both need to play next to someone who can give them orders and cut out some of their mistakes.

I would be very happy going into next season with Stones always lining up alongside Ake or Laporte. Would rather shift Ota (old) and flog Garcia (don't rate him very highly, and if he doesnt want to be here then bye) and keep two homegrown centre backs meaning we can look at decent signings elsewhere instead of being forced to drop 80 million on someone like Chillwell or Maguire just because they're english.

There are definitely concerns about him, but I think that's the thing that might be key. I've read a lot of people talking about his leadership and intelligent play - and that's more important at City where the defence is so exposed that a single mistake, or player out of position can cause havoc.

Stones has all the attributes of a great defender, but would definitely benefit from a strong leader beside him. Garcia looks good, and it sounds like he's going to be a leader/thinker on the pitch, but I just can't believe he'll prosper in the PL with his lack of height and pace.

I think we'll see Ake and Laporte as the main two. A distinct lack of pace has been the problem.

I’d like to keep John for at least another year.

If - and I know it’s a big if - he can overcome his injury problems, and he can recapture his his form from a couple of seasons ago, he will be a great great asset.
