Maybe we are getting him a bit cheaper than we would have, but only a few million and think we're getting good value at £30 million even with add ons without it being a rip off for Bournemouth.

If Spurs, Everton and Chelsea are all interested at £35m then we aren't going to get him for below that, even if they get relegated and even if we're the club he most wants to go to - he's not going to risk getting stuck in the Championship if other decent sides are in for him.

IMO we should've signed him a year ago. This season would've looked A LOT different. Will prove to be a top signing I reckon and will seem a bargain in a few years time.

Ake's lack of physical size led some and I suspect Pep to prefer someone bigger i.e. Maguire.
He also had faith in Stones returning to form.
However, bringing Ake in with Koulibaly (with size) but both with better pace than Nico or Stones should round out that issue a bit more.
Ake isn't being bought to be Laporte's partner, he's being bought as more of a squad player because of his quality and versatility. There'll be a partner for Laporte bought who will have the requisite physical presence. Which is tbf, pretty much what your post is saying !
