Lyon CL QF Post-Match Thread

No doubt Pep got it wrong today but that does not excuse player errors. One of the reasons Pep tries different things like today is because the players can't always be relied on to go out and deliver in this competition. He's tried to compensate for their weaknesses rather than just playing to their strengths. The fact is he has come a cropper with both approaches. We need some new players to help Pep elevate us again.

I've not read this thread but if comments are anything like those on Twitter, it'll just have me shaking my head at the state of some of our supporters. Pep is not perfect but Pep is not the problem.

you are wrong. 100% wrong. Today that performance and ultimately result was Peps doing.. everything that worked against Real Madrid was changed. We were cautious against Madrid but not to that extent. That set up for the first 55 mins was horrific given it was effectively a 1 Leg tie against Crystal Palace (in terms of quality).

Gundogan, Rodri, Cancelo all not good enough

Fernandinho past it

Laporte crumbling again in the CL

Jesus and Ederson fantastic at everything apart from their number 1 job of scoring and keeping it out of the net respectively

Worst by a mile though was Pep, got it completely wrong, refused to change it for 60 mins

Can spend what we want this summer, but looks like we'll be relying on Rodrigan and CM and we'll win zip with those 2

Pep is not perfect but Pep is not the problem.
Tonight he was unquestionably part of the problem. Lyon finished 7th in Ligue Un, do you think Pep would have played that team and tactics against a PL team of similar ability? I certain he wouldn't, he's got a hangup about the CL because he's not won it for so long.

Would not be surprised if Pep walks ....extreme ....but his reaction after the 3rd with his staff did not look good ,their reaction to him did not look good either

Yes we missed sitters, but how the fuck is that not a foul on Laporte for that second goal, it was the clearest trip we could ever see.....had that been Martial, they'd probably have given a penalty.....still down to the manager though. £20m a yea r for that!!
how come it only takes 1 pass to consistently split our defence and put an opposing player clean through on goal, where's the defensive organisation from Pep and his coaching team. The better team with more top class players at its disposal failed miserably, again.

watch Bayern not change their philosophy at all and fucking expose denayer and Lyons below standard defence.

Pep got the selection wrong tonight. You could see the immediate change in the speed and flow of our play when Mahrez came on. But come on, we had enough chances to win the game, 2 monumental errors and a dodgy VAR cost us. At this level that’s enough to cost you.

I think a lot of people are forgetting that Lyon knocked Juve out over 2 legs.

Pep stated in the Centurions season that we had to be better in both boxes....catches win matches, goals win games !!

agree along with a pedestrian non creative midfield duo of Gundogan and Rodri - Pep panicked and he has moved awy from plying the single pivot to a triple one - we set up like liverpool but without their 3 forwards and with less mobility and legs in midfield

No question If he picked the same team. That team was awful. then compound it by making Only two subs and leaving your two most energetic players on the bench.
mate, that is ALL on pep.

We created enough to win the game.

It's not Pep's fault we missed a number of really good chances.

It's not Pep's fault Walker played them onside for their 1st.

It's not his fault their 2and goal was incorrectly given.

It's also not Pep's fault that Ederson turned into a sunday league goalie at the most inopportune moment for their 3rd.

The players didn't do their jobs mate.

I belive my original post said the manner pissed me off, and the formation chosen, but we are out, I can sit and moan about it or accept it and look forward.
As I said we fucked up and was done in by VAR in one instance, so now I look at the positives of the season now it's over.
It’s fucking Rio Ferdinands fault winding me up!

The more I see that second goal the more livid I am. We were wank but come on thats a fucking foul. Screwed over again.
Could have accepted it if the ref had at least gone over to the monitor to make his own decision instead of leaving it to the most in experienced official ever to take part of a major quarter final.

For UAE and Mansour it will be huge disappointment that Qatar's PSG will most likely get to CL final before City.
rivalry between two countries are huge I am pretty sure Mansour would like to see any other top club lift the CL trophy or play in final before PSG.
