Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

I would have thought it will get done soon, but I wouldn't put any special meaning on it, if it's not done, other than both sides want to see how the team is reacting next season before deciding.

If the team don't respond, Pep will walk, most definitely.
It's the distractions idea of things that concern me. The questions will be asked week in week out until a decision is made one way or another and I'd prefer us to move to avoid that.

I'm more concerned that we get on with rebuilding & upgrading the team personally & that the manager who will be doing that longer term, is in place soon as possible. But December wouldn't be long to wait for that decision. It's only like November in a 'normal' season.

Pep has said he wants to stay on 'if' he deserves it.

i hope he extends. its been a great few years with pep here. the football has been amazing.

how the club handle this, and the eventual departure of pep, will show us how well the club is run. changing over a manager who has been involved so deeply in the playing ethos and club progression becomes a cross to bear for the successor.
just think of the shit Arsenal and Utd had (still have) when their long term managers left (obviously, pep hasn't had that longevity, but he is as much an intrinsic part of the club now that his leaving will set alarm bells ringing inside and outside the club).
will we go for a similar style, or a manager with a completely different way of playing. how will the players adapt to the new coaching and playing techniques?
2 more years after next year and that's good enough for me, pep lad. then bring in David Silva to manage.

At the end of the day pep is human like the rest of us. He can make mistakes, it is allowed. We make mistakes day in day out.
The way some posters have crucified him after Lyon was embarrassing, this bloke has gave me the best football and the most joy watching city ever in my near 40 years watching us, it isnt life or death that half have come across on here.
Give the guy some slack, he'll make up for it tenfold.
Human?

No time for humans, Pep out........

We deservedly lost. We would have lost playing 433 as well and there's a whole season's worth of evidence to back it up.

I don't know if it's misplaced arrogance, or wilfull stupidity that makes you think this time, unlike all the other times we played similar teams, we'd have been fine, but it would be nice to hear your reasoning why Lyon wouldn't have done what United (twice), Wolves (twice) and Arsenal did to us instead of just screaming abuse like a child.
And still he drones on.

Well, Pep and the club could have agreed to keep this quiet but Cheesy once again got a scoop from his chatty super source.

I’m convinced Ian just posted his CAS tweet on the basis of the exoneration WhatsApp chain that was doing the rounds on here, with other posters saying the same thing before he tweeted out anything.

Now, after there was again activity on this forum with other users saying that Pep’s extended, he’s tweeted out another ‘scoop’ at a rather convenient time.

Call me cynical, but I genuinely think his source is bluemoon and he regurgitates it as his own.

You keep telling yourself that. We were shite in a 343, 352 and only took control of the game when we went four at the back.

Also his starting line up was woeful and his substitutions (or lack of them) showed he shat it. That loss was entirely on Pep. They finished 7th in a farmers league ffs.
To be fair, they have improved a lot since Garcia took over.

However, I still agree on the lineup.......

Come on guys, we're all Blues, no need to turn on each other and get all Malcolm Tucker. There's enough external hate for us without bringing it in-house! Peace.

This is news to plenty people at City today.

Enough mutual respect from both sides not to panic.

I can definitely see City's top management and Pep trust each other enough to not rush this, Txiki let Pep get to the end of several 12 month deals before renewing at Barcelona.

If it's not done by the start of the season, though, they have to know it will create a massive circus that will unsettle the players and piss Pep off when he gets 20 questions about his future every press conference because they've been through it all before.

It's a double edged sword though because if he doesn't intend to renew and informs the press/team the intensity levels will inevitably drop, see Pellegrini 2016.

What's your gut feeling, Tolm?

Final season. It affords City the protection currently not to be handing him a ridiculously high pay off next year if we are forced to show him the door.

As the people at City say, plenty of mutual respect and trust to see where we are later on in the season.

Pep holds the cards either way.

Any other manager in the world coming off the back of that season and that performance / team selection against Lyon would be in real trouble.

I appreciate Pep has a lot of credit in the bank. There's also a huge bond of trust between Txiki and Pep, so no need to panic.

If he signs a one-year rolling contract, I think that's just about acceptable.

But going in to the season with his contract being up and maybe making a decision in December? That's not acceptable, and wouldn't be afforded to any other manager.

He'd lose all his authority, players wouldn't have the same commitment.

It's not the Pep Guardiola show, it's Manchester City, we're a serious club. If he wants to extend, great, let's rebuild and go again.

But if he doesn't want to extend, the sky isn't going to fall in if we appoint Poch or Nanglesmann this summer. Better to do it now than tread water for a season.

I get all that and can understand the sentiment, but leaving the question unanswered will bring more negatives than positives to the club next season. It'll be another media circus show on a weekly basis which we could do without.
