Houssem Aouar

Have t seen anything special from him. bernardo and foden are better. he won’t play DM so it looks like he’s up for Silva’s role which I prefer Bernardo and foden to occupy.
 
I feel it ought to be said, Pep doesn't play Gundogan solely because he has a love affair with him. He plays him (whether we agree or don't) because he thinks he can do a specific job that nobody else can really do. If there were someone else who did it better, Pep would play them. Gundogan has largely been a second choice guy under Pep. Silva played ahead of him most of the time in the #8 role before he declined physically and Fernandinho played largely ahead of him in the #6 until he got injured/moved back to CB. There's a good chance too that had Silva not had physical issues this season Gundogan would be behind him and Rodri in the pecking order. He'd still get plenty of games, but that's more down to Pep loving to rotate to give everyone he considers worthwhile in the squad game time.

Point is, if we signed Aouar and Pep thought he was both good enough to play the role and better than Gundogan, he'd play him ahead of Gundogan. He's not going to pick Gundogan to spite us. He's shown all too many times that he'll happily drop a guy for someone he thinks is (doing) better.
 
Some big boys that need overhaul like Barca and Madrid will snap him up fast if we are still hesitant.

Juve are already linked and he's exactly what they need tbh. Arsenal fans also seem to think they've got a chance after some rumours appeared, but they've got a tendency to go a bit delusional during the transfer window, bless them.
 
Yes, please. We’ve liked him for two seasons now, and we need more strength and bite in midfield. Against Lyon, we benched the creativity, but saw that the first choice three couldn’t cut it against young, fast, strong. Some young, fast, strong in their would free up two of the better creative young talent in the world (Bernardo & Foden) to be able to slit in where and when needed.

No I don't. I want to see Foden take his rightful place in the centre of midfield alongside Kev.

If Gundogan was to leave tomorrow then I'd happily take Aouar but I still wouldn't start him the majority of the time and he's far too good to be a backup.

It just feels like bloatware.

phil logged 1800, dave 2500, Gundogan 3200, Bernardo about 3100.

Gundogan isn’t logging any less minutes if we don’t add a midfielder. Where you going to divvy up those 2500 silva minutes? Phil Isn’t getting 4000.

more than I’d like (300 ish?) I’m with you on that. With torres and Aouar coming in we could balance daves minutes out easily, give raz a bit of rest, drop Gundogan’s minutes significantly, increase Phil’s, ease in Aouar year one, and maintain Bernardo’s.

let form dictate 300-400m extra for each. Very easily doable. It takes significant pressure off Phil too. I’d rather him get 2500 than 3200-3500.
