Return of Supporters

I honestly think it will be at least a year until football fans are properly let in.

This government are no friends of the fans and have their own stereotypical view of us.

Just back from Poland where I went to 3 games. They're allowing 50% of capacity. Face mask required when you're going in and in the concourse, but not required in your seat.

The advantage they had was that - at least at the places I went (Gdansk and Poznan), they average below 50% of capacity, so didn't have the "who gets a ticket" problem.

The ultras sections didn't seem to be complying with social distancing at times, but I suppose their balaclavas were the original face coverings.

To be honest (aside from the ultras sections), I felt far better about being sat in an open air arena, with seats between me and other people than I do when I'm in a bar, restaurant, gym, or shop over here.

The risk is minimal is it? Okay let’s play a fantasy game...

We’re allowed a full stadium, the stadium is full every game and it is your choice to go, but you must attend all home games.

EVERY home game over the season Huge Ferret announces 14 seat numbers (just like they have done occasionally when someone out of the family stand usually wins) only this time it really is random. The occupiers of those seats have to go down to the pitch, young, old, disabled, fit; it doesn’t matter, but you only have to play the game once. You are led to the centre circle and stand approx. 4 metres apart. In the centre is a maladjusted cyborg gunslinger (Yul Brynner in Westworld). On the whistle you are allowed to move/ run away. The gunslinger starts firing at the 14 people and doesn’t stop until 2 are killed.
Some are injured and may be maimed for life, some don’t get injured, but 2 always get killed, every home game. Your chances of survival are better the quicker and more agile you are, but the chances of you being one of the 14 selected remain almost the same for each one of the 19 games.

There are 14 times you could be selected each game, 266 (278 predicted cases) chances over the season and of these 14 people 2 will end up dead, 38 (34 predicted deaths) over the season.

This game is based on the number of people in the UK affected and killed by COVID-19 in the 1st 8 months of 2020, the number of deaths from COVID-19, the league season having 19 home games and the Etihad holding 55,000 people each game.

So now, do you think you will not be one of the 278 people that will catch the virus over the season (~14 each match). Do you think that you are strong enough once you’ve caught it to recover considering that we don’t know future consequences of being infected or do you think that being older or with an underlying health condition you are going to be one of the 2 we’ll be paying tribute to at the next match?

For me, I’m recovering from major surgery and have 2 other underlying health conditions, so it’s a risk averse choice, I don’t want ‘Carver, shot by A gunslinger 2020-21’ on the video screen and won’t be going. However, I’ve still got that niggle ‘but what about the Derby, dippers and missing a random 10 goal haul.

Just go away please

Sounds a great trip. Mirrors mine in July.

Think if we design a stadium using a bar or beach as a template we should be fine with 100% capacity games.

Thinking of going Poland again Sept as struggling elsewhere and its a great place!

Little plug for these guys if you fancy live footy, they need the money!

Maine Road FC's FA Cup tie with Squires Gate will be broadcast live on the BBC Sport website, iPlayer and Red Button on Tuesday 01.09 kick off 7.45pm.

The game is to be played at Prestwich Heys FC ground (M45 6WG) not Maine Roads normal home ground for anyone thinking of going.

I have asked if its pay on the gate but had nothing back, limited to 300 capacity I think.

The BBC originally planned to show Burton Park Wanderers v AFC Sudbury. However, due to a positive Covid-19 test amongst the Burton Park Wanderers squad, the tie has been handed to AFC Sudbury.

Considering another trip there for the 1st weekend of October around Krakow/Wroclaw. We're away to Leeds but don't think we'll be able to go.

Bit of a gamble though as things are constantly changing.

Those seat-based competitions are always won by someone in the Family Stand anyway so most of us would be fine...

sounds like a good trip and another one in the pipeline. Good on you. Bet you experience some good atmosphere at the games.

Messi is probably coming and we can't be there for his debut. That's just shit, that is.

Arsenal have announced they intend to have some supporters back for their game on 3rd October. They have not stated a figure for how many will be allowed.

They are having a ballot for all season ticket and premium members, but they are asking for a proportion of the season ticket upfront to be able to enter the ballot. Any credit from last year can be used instead.

Lets wait and see what City have to say, but I would imagine they will want to have supporters back asap. We are due to be away to Leeds that weekend. An international break means City v Arsenal on the weekend of the 17th October looks like it could be our first home game - which would be a nice coincidence given that was the first fixture cancelled last season, and we'll hopefully have the benefit of seeing how other clubs have fared.

Quiet a few are doing the same - asking for £60 up front sorts out who's intending to return and who's sitting the season out. Shame City didn't do the same or we'd perhaps know what's what by now and they wouldn't be second guessing how many want to actually go to Burnley at home....

Leicester have done this. If you never get chosen in the ballot the £60 is rolled over to next season's ticket. Interesting that success in their ballot seems to reduce the chances in the next ballot cycle.

Burnley at home is an annual or biannual 5-0 so I am up for it :)

City tend to see what everyone else is doing before they make any decisions, let another club make the mistake and take the flack then do something different.

Not going to football has impacted my mental health more than I thought. Not been a game for nearly 180 days. Longest spell I have not watch city live in 37 years and I have watched us live well in excess of 1200 times. Far bigger problems going on in life but it has been a coping mechanism for me for many years. Absolutely cannot wait to be back. Think next season will be a bit of a farce again to be honest and it will be the season after before it feels back to normal. What a wank year 2020 has been. My old fella is in poor health these days and I am beyond desperate to take him and my kids to a full Etihad a few more times and maybe watching Messi.

Good times will return, keep the faith!

Personally I think it's fair to reduce the chances - in fact I'd go so far as excluding people from future ballots once they've had a ticket until every season ticket holder has had 1 game

Daily Mail suggesting Arsenal are trying for 15k supporters, which if I'm honest is more than I was expecting. I thought it would initially be around 3k-6k and would work its way up.

Good news (depending on your point of view).

I've been told the club are also aiming for around that 15k mark for the 17th Oct, and as an slight fun point, we could potentially be allowed more people in the stadium than other teams based in Trafford due to the fact their stadium has a smaller concourse so fans can't distance which is where ours works in our favor
