I understand it's Messi and all, but does anyone feel a bit weird about a new signing getting a % of the CFG? I feel like it would be more fitting giving the likes of Aguero, Silva etc a very tiny % each
He isn't just a 'new signing' though is he. Its a one of a kind deal for a one of a kind player. He immediately catapults us to sponsorship and media coverage like never seen before. Nobody was arsed when Ronaldo left madrid and when he left the rags the social media coverage etc was quite literally a decade behind what it is now.

He is worth his weight in gold to the CFG at all levels. Things like the Silver Lake deal will be considered one of the steals of the century in a decade or so I think. Sheikh Mansour will dilute the CFG down further and we will be a multi billion operation whilst City sit at the top of the pile and hopefully we are hoovering up the best talent and trophies across Australia, USA, Japan and more.

The only sad part of this for me is that I may never get to see the great man in the flesh with a city shirt on (as a non season ticket holder) but you never know I guess!

Right I've finally finished tidying me garage, Messi has a place to stay if push came to shove....If someone could let him know?

why are we beating ourselves up over this ? the club will know what needs to be done they are not going to run foul of FFP. We have trusted them for 12 years they havent let us down yet, so why are we looking at this and think anything is dodgy? Its because everything is going slowly in this and everyone is just chatting shit to fill the void .

Exactly, no fucker knows how we are financing the deal but as usual the negative merchants are pissing on our chips, i’ll put my trust in the professionals who run our club not some herberts posting on an internet football forum.

No player will ever get a slice of the CFG. A set precedent cannot be unset.

But Messi isn't just any player is he? He's considered by many (perhaps even most) to be the geatest player in the history of the game. The exposure alone for the club is difficult to overstate. The entire point of getting Txiki and Farran in the first place was to one day entice Guardiola and hope like hell that one day, when all the pieces are in place, Messi becomes available.

That level of planning alone hints that the deal they are willing to offer such an extraordinary player will at the very least have the potential to be pretty extraordinary to.

It's a disconcerting precedent to set. But if any other players in the future were to expect a similar deal, they would have to be proven Messi quality. And there aren't many of those in a lifetime.

Even mighty Maine Road are two distracted by the Messi transfer saga to get any work done.

Can I just add a wee bit in here. Best player ever to play football? The guy is undeniably brilliant, stunning, best of a generation. But best to ever play the game? Maybe the best to play in an age when our TV screens are saturated with football coverage. Only ever played in a two team league. Team filled with very, very good players. Best ever in an age that is saturated with social media bollocks and pundits who we regularly agree are full of shit.

Yep, undeniably brilliant, but the best to ever play the game.......my arse.

Anyway, I hope he signs as I think he'd improve us.

Not a patch on Nery Castillo.

Are people questioning the Messi signing for real? A 5 year contract, half for us and half for NYC, is a massive coup. The amount we'll get for sponsors, tickets, merchandise etc will be huge for our owners. If it ever comes to a stage where we don't want the best player on the planet then I'd start to question the clubs direction.
