He brought us back a Footballer Lionel Andres Messi!!
 
It took me long enough but earlier tonight my brain finally accepted that this thing is actually going to come off. I haven't had my heart race like that or gotten that giddy in such a long time. It's completely crazy to think the bookies have us getting him at 75% and there still is equity there for some small profit. We're looking at something like a 85% or better chance to sign the greatest player in the history of the world. We're adding him to the best manager in the sport, the second best player in the world, a top 5 wide player, a top 5 striker, two world class generational young talents, brazil's number 9, the perfect goal keeper, and by far the deepest squad in world football.

I'd hate to be Gundogan next year. This guy is going to get absolutely destroyed on here. I'm already a little steamed picturing him and Rodri playing next to each other.

If that had happened he would have been told "no" but then as he's been at the club for 20 years he may have twigged by now that Barca is a member-owned club not a limited company.

But you are patently talking shite. Why would receiving a small percentage of shares be worse than taking a higher salary (which would then destroy our wage structure) in terms of team morale?

No player puts in even close to his levels of goals and assists and we are talking about the greatest player to ever play the game of football. Morale will only go up if he signs, not down.

You haven't even come close to making a cogent point as to why it would be a bad idea yet. That is why everyone else seems to be simply ignoring your posts on the matter.

Their team is going off the rails. I've watched them in the Champions League over the last 2 seasons and that 8-2 defeat was coming. Their side needed overhauling. They tried to be fair but the expensive players they bought were not playing against bayern, indeed one was playing against them!

Against Bayern Munich I recall Vidal and Busqets playing alongside Messi. We know Messi doesn't run so it's suicidal to play Vidal and Busqets behind him. They must be as old as Messi. That should be a warning to City. I think City have got the running power in guys like Foden, De Bruyne and Bernardo so that does not really worry me. We are much better able to integrate Messi that Barcelona are. At the back they've got Pique and Alba too. In front of Messi that night there was Suarez and his speed has gone so it's clear that Barcelona's senior players have grown old and the renewal process has failed. They tried certainly. And the players they bought like Griezmann and Coutinho are top players. Perhaps this can be good for them because they can get more out of the squad they have?

I think City fans should be a little concerned about this. If we are to get the best out of Messi, we cannot just plonk him the side and hope it works. Thankfully we have Guardiola and industrious players like Foden, Jesus and Bernardo

In a nutshell, I am worried about the dynamic of the team if Messi comes in on a % of the group.
These kind of deals are what, possibly, can destroy a teams morale.
If things go great and the money rolls in and the goals fly in, then great plan.
But if Messi loses his spark or fails to adapt, or gets a fucked up knee within 3 games of the season starting, where does that leave us?
With players literally playing to pay Messi his dividend?
I am worrying about this deal for a lot of valid reasons.
Club and fans being super optimistic in order to make this plan attractive is not good business sense.

If by dynamic you mean excitement and morale then that's patently not going to be true. I bet players like Foden, Jesus, De Bruyne, Aguero are even more excited about playing with Messi than we are watching him.

There is a risk in investing a lot of resources in one player but the only reason we can do this deal is because Messi wants to go. He's on strike. He tried to execute his release clause. The wages will be a drain but even when Messi is not playing he will still create huge revenue for the club. I am pretty sure that guys like Silverlake Investments probably knew about these plans and City will be set up to exploit that.

To be honest I do think City fans should acknowledge that at 33 he's not the player he was at 25 but it makes sense for City in a way that doesn't for Barcelona.

Manchester is doing very well, much improved from the dump of the 70s and 80s, but let's not get carried away.

One of the biggest issues as a club we have is selling Manchester as a place to live for the players we want.
Climate and lifestyle are far from ideal, there are notable exceptions, the likes of Silva and Aguero who have settled incredibly well.

I don't think I'm over analyzing anything, simply wondering what makes his dad such an important figure in this saga. How could he be expected to solve anything that club, player, league representatives and lawyers don't? And if he is the key in this negotiations, why wasn't he involved from the beginning?

Because he is his manager and agent and I would expect he also has power of attorney to sign on the player's behalf. It may as well be Messi there in person.
