2 ways to look at this:

1. Messi did want to leave and come to us. Fax sent, numerous times he stated that the decision was made.
2. It has all been a ruse to get back at bart and change president and give the club a kick up the ass.

I don't think anything has changed, he is only staying to avoid legal action. Now he is either lying on camera or has lied to city about his intentions.

I cant get passed that he stressed the decision was made over the season to change(so not last minute). He is only staying because he has 1 year left and the club won't negotiate his release. The rest is just fluff for the supporters.

Hopefully this is putting the barca board into a corner and they have to act.

Maybe he has bottled it and is taking the easy option out but maybe this is calculated just like the fax to put the board in a difficult position which is to let him go for a reasonable fee. Prob the first choice but you never know.

I’m 50 - I don’t have kids, and never really wanted kids, but even I can empathise with this. Messi may well have all the money in the world and as such his kids will never be wanting for anything, but like the rest of us he and his kids are human beings and have feelings. Everyone is different - some of us don’t mind moving around and see it as an adventure but others feel more comfortable with familiar surroundings. Reading between the lines, it does sound to me that Messi had eventually got his son onside with the idea of a new life elsewhere.

I agree, to me he was saying that it wasn't an easy or spur of the moment decision and by saying that he still wanted to leave I assume he is confirming they his family decided to go for it.

i Don’t see Messi leaving next summer with Xavi all but certainly being the manager at Barcelona but even if he did want to leave for me next season it would move from a footballing transfer to a commercial transfer.

The problem is so much deeper than the board. The problem is the squad and manager and they don't have any money to fix it.

Ah, the CL quarter final they lost? He definitely should come to us then if he doesn't want that to happen...

Seem to recall us losing 8-1 just before a manager was sacked and then would have looked a lot better the following season even if the money hadn't landed. Or how about losing to Wigan in a cup final before winning the league the next season. But apparently Barca can't do that with the world's best player.
