Still think we’d be interested, although the five year contract being touted (three with us, two at NYC) seems unlikely. He’d be 39 by the end of it.

Actually if the upper management is no longer at Barca the most likely thing is he'll resign an extension.

Does anyone else feel incredibly disappointed in the way that Messi's camp have played this last week out?

I don't know how anyone could be disappointed in their actions without knowing what's going on.

For all we know, City and Messi are on the same page, he needed to be let go for free, they tried to go public vs. La Liga to get them to back down, but Bartomeu stood firm.

I'm sure more details will emerge when people like TH, the Barcelona connected journalists and the city ones get the full story from the respective parties. Then we can take a crack at judging what's happened.

It’s all too political for me this

Don’t think this is the end of this saga but glad City themselves kept their own council and let Barca implode

Who’s turn is it next Bart or Messi

The problem is so much deeper than the board. The problem is the squad and manager and they don't have any money to fix it.
This Barca squad is still good enough to win La Liga. Real aren't all that and were grinding out results barely last season.

Griezmann, Dembele, Messi, De Jong etc are all good players. Fresh air coach also will help them. If they win La Liga it will be easy to convince him of a new project.

Was weird releasing a statement in the morning hinting he was leaving only to then release an interview in the afternoon saying he was staying.

do you need a cuddle ?
To be fair your percentages are hardly reliable. 99% done when all that seemed to happen was Messi said he'd be interested in coming to us. Given the fact nothing was agreed with Barca at all and Messi's word is hardly worth anything (hasn't he retired from Argentina twice) how is that 99% done

Thinks that pretty spot on but Messi camp thinking Bartomeu wouldn’t react like he has have learnt nothing from that cunts past.

I don't because I think they have done what they could but were not prepared to take Barca to court which is not unreasonable. What more could they do when they are not dealing with a reasonable man in Bartameu.

What I want to see above all is his contract. It seems team Messi overestimated his position re walking out immediately as well as the release clause. But if this was the case surely Soriano would have been wise to it.
It's baffling to be honest.

I would have loved to see a public interview from Messi where he says the same things but doesn't confirm he stays at Barca and basically publicly asks for permission to leave.

I still think Barto wouldn't have allowed the transfer but that would've been the final attempt for me.

How can he leave next year unless Barca have a shit season all-round he hasn't moved now because the family were put 1st, kids & wife crying dont go dont go, new schools and all

Only be the same again next year

Nope for me it was now or never, he now stays & only a long shot he goes to NYC to finish his football

Only chance of UK is on loan during MLS break just like Frank Lampard??

I didn't get his dads statement then this

There has been a major cock up on Messi's side imo its proved fuckall

Did you read all his statement? He was saying, although his wife and kids didn’t want to go, they were respecting his decision to leave, he wants to leave, but Barca is a complete shambles and won’t let him go. He clearly believes he should be allowed to leave, but if Barca say no, then the only way is to go to court and he doesn't want that. So he stays because Barca won’t let him leave.

The problem we have is that the Barca President is already in a terrible situation. It’s different in Spain and he could face some severe consequences as it is. If Messi goes, then people blame him. It makes it ten times worst for him. If Messi remains whilst he can finish his term, maybe he gets away with it, but if Messi goes whilst he’s still there, he doesn’t. He knows Messi won’t take Barca to court. So it’s easy for him, simply refuse any bid, refuse to talk, refuse to listen. It very probably does state in Messi’s contract he can leave for free and he says in his statement, that he believes that’s the case. But it doesn’t matter, if the Barca president says NOPE, then the options for Messi are limited outside of going to court. Messi has come out with this one last dig at it him, but I don’t think it will matter. This isn’t football we’re talking about. This is the Barca president’s potential own finances and freedom at jeopardy. Only a huge sum of money would help him out, otherwise allowing Messi to go for anything really doesn’t help him. However, If I were Messi, I’d say I’m leaving anyway, take me to court, you’ll lose and then you’ll be in an even worst situation than ever. Make the court thing about Messi vs him, not Messi vs Barca. That would really f*ck him over.

I have to say well played Soriano, best CEO in Football. Better to wait and get a clean Messi vs facing a lawsuit and bad PR.

But, I think there is a remote chance that Bartomeu will now negotiate with Soriano for £100+players.
