A lot of people are forgetting that this is about more than Manchester City getting a couple of seasons out of an aging super star. It is about the huge marketing potential of a world icon to the CFG.

City get something out of this, of course, but its only a part of the long term game plan. That is his status around the planet and the far bigger dreams of CFG not only being about MANCHESTER City.

Those who stay up and watch New York City will see the same ethos throughout that club. This is the long term aim here and City have a part in it but its far from the only factor in this.

Of course, Messi wants a last hurrah with Pep and a crack at what he knows is the hardest league in the world to win.

But he also knows where else will he get the chance to stay a global icon and still play maybe 5 years from now at NYFC or some other part of the empire.

This is a match that suits everyone and if he gets a few months less at City because of Barca intransigence I doubt that will be a serious consequence.

Do not under estimate that the City Group started with City but it is now much more than that. And Messi knows the opportunity that brings him that nowhere else can.

Only Pele, Maradona & Ronaldo have figures close to Messi & Ronaldo and fuck off with the Foden bollocks he's only just broke into our side he'll never reach the levels of those 2.

Now that I watch the interview I actually feel sorry for him in some way. He wanted a new challenge wanted to leave on good terms but the president has refused, he did not want to take his club to court as they have given him everything and that was a noble move. This will derail barcas year before it even starts, they have handled this so poorly! Glad we are run by an amazing board.

Also no guarantee Pep will be here at the end of this new season, I think it is a now or never tbh. Bid and see what happens.
