Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

Maybe not the right thread but Pep has told the club he'll make no decision on his future anytime soon. The word used was it'll be "months" before he decides if he wants to renew.

Smells very similar to his time at Bayern and the things he said back then. For my money he's already decided to go when his deal expires.

Maybe that's why we aren't refreshing the squad?

Wait until next summer when we have Pochettino?

I think it's just as likely he doesn't know if he'll be any good this season.

If the players respond to him, then I don't think it's certain he will leave. If they don't, I wouldn't be surprised if he's gone early.

Pochettino won't manage for another year? He strikes me as being a 24/7 boss so that's some wait.

I'd take him. I think he's handled certain situations very well.

Perfect candidate - people say ‘but what has he won?’ But he’s never had a £1b squad, or chosen easy jobs like Guardiola - he’s turned down PSG, Bayern, Barcelona and Real Madrid in the past few years. He could have just collected default titles like Pep by inheriting the best squads in their respective leagues, but instead he chose to stay with the Spurs project he started.

The only thing that stopped him winning things was a lack of squad depth - players running out of fuel around April because he had no viable options to rotate them with throughout the season. He wouldn’t have the same issues here.

He also apparently turned down the United job in January, something he’d previously expressed an interest in; that suggests he’s been promised another job, and it clearly isn’t Barcelona or Juve who’ve both appointed new coaches this summer, so I’m confident it’s us.

If Arteta continues with his Arsenal success this season then he's the perfect candidate to replace Pep in my view. He has already won one trophy.

Bottled it when Leicester won the Premier League in 2015-16 and totally lost it at the end of his reign. There are better candidates than Poch to replace Pep.

Be barca when new board is elected is my shout.

Agree about the Barca return - probably what he was doing thein the midst of the Messi chaos.

We should have asked him at the end of last season if he was committing to another contract, and if he wouldn’t, just drawn a line under him and hired somebody else to use this season to lay the foundations for the next decade.

2/4 titles and no Champions League progress doesn’t earn him the right to keep us waiting; we did that from 2013-2016, throwing away easy titles under a Chilean caretaker, and we’re potentially going to waste another year in underwhelming limbo while our rivals are strengthening their own projects.

If he couldn’t win in Europe with the 2017/18 squad, he’s not going to do it with this downgraded, declining one in the coming season, so it’s time to rebuild under somebody who’s committed to the club for the next 4/5 years, who’s proven they can maximise the potential of every player in the squad, and overachieve without spending £50m on squad players.

Enter Pochettino, before Spurs take him back to lead their upgraded squad to success.

Has he turned down those clubs because he knows hes not up to it (thats if he was actually offered them in the first place), that would be my worry.

He has proven track record of bottling big games and we simply don't have the luxury of letting Pep go and Poch having a couple years to sort things out.

I don't know who the replacement is but I hope its not Poch.

I’ve just read in The Athletic that Pep is our longest serving manager since Tony Book, and if he's here until marc, he will be the longest since Sir Joe.

I desperately hope he extends his contract, and overtakes Joe too.

Seriously?
You think Pep was in Barca offering himself around for a job.

Very raggish comments the rest of your post as well.

I've got a rag mate (I know, I know - shouldn't have rag mates) who throws these lines out there as part of his regular City bingo.

Pep has managed to get a tune, a bloody good tune at that, out of his squads. There's no guarantee of winning anything in football, whether you've got the best resources or not. Therefore from Pep the only way is down in my opinion, but that's not to say we can't find a very good option.

Would Poch be that man? I'm not so sure, but at the same time should the change come next summer, there isn't a clear candidate in my eyes.
