Wolves (A) Post-Match Thread

Absolutely superb 3 points with everything against us tonight

Could only see a defeat, possibly even a bit of a battering

Should know better by now than to underestimate our genius manager

Excellent first half and we ran out of steam in the second which is to be expected. Mendy was a little hamstrung with the yellow which was harsh but he did his best. Still think we need a proper alternative at left back. Overall very good performance.

For an away performance against a decent team , I'll settle for that result.

Overall a very good night, how many teams are gonna go there and be as effective as we were that first half. Ok, we had a twenty minute spell where we looked leggy, but wolves are no pushovers at home and I cant see many teams going there and winning by two like we just did. Ref tried to let em back in by dishing the yellows out and it got to Mendy, but the best thing is that we look ready for a fight this season. Shout out to how negative toward us skys commentry team was, took 5 seconds to say we are 6 points behind dippers, and never stopped hoping for a wolves comeback.....absolute wankers.

Great 1st. Tired second half. Disappointed no reaction from pep as that could of been 2-2. Maybe he didn’t have the players on the bench.

impressed with Aki & fern back in the middle although his legs had gone.

concerns for me are still mendy & Jesus.

Jesus work is incredible & a good player I just think he spends to much time outside the box. When he’s in the box he can be lethal like he shown at the end. I just don’t see a top class goal scorer. I know many do.

Mendy is just not good enough & his pace has totally gone. A big worry.

very big win for city & deserved.
Jesus was great, never stopped. Mendy got fucked by Mariner.

Love to be in the dressing room at half time sometimes, we go in ahead and coasting and come out playing like we are a non league team, how does that happen? Is it the opposition wising up or something I’m missing as a layman??
Really frustrating for all us fans but never seems to be addressed???

The shakiness of our defence is directly proportional to the quality of the press.

We were supreme in the first half. The positioning of Rodri and Fernandinho stopped their chipped balls into their wide forwards, where they build up from.

That slowed their passing and our press was superb.

We physically dropped for the first 15 mins of the second half and we gave up a chance.

Then KDB got megged and they score from a decent cross.

We then dominated the game through game management.

Ake looked really good.
Best I’ve seen Stones play in about 18 months.
The number 25 seems really good in midfield.
Jesus got battered and got nothing, but deserved his goal at the end.
Mendy I thought played pretty well. Very good positionally and some signs of progression in his passing. Sure, Traore got past him a few times, but didn’t do anything with it as he is Traore.

All in all, a really impressive first game and not one I was expecting, but really happy we have our mojo and more importantly, our press back.

Excellent summation of the game.

In some ways that performance was better for us than destroying them.

We won our first match, away to a very good team who has done us in the past, even though we didn’t play *that* well overall, without a few usual key performers, learning about what we need to improve moving forward.

It gives us some confidence without giving us *too* much and also establishes things we can focus on to strengthen in training.

Obviously very much hope that Kev is ok after what looked like an awkward clash with Boly — one angle made it look like a lateral hyper extension, which I unfortunately am familiar with. He did look ok at the end, but those tend to be felt fully after the adrenaline drains later in the day.

It wasn’t perfect but, all things considered, I am happy, especially as I got FPL points for Kev *and* Jimenez. ;-)

I suppose I should not be surprised that the moaning mob is slagging off Mendy, now Gündogan is not available to be the victim of abuse. It is a funny way of being supportive of a football club.

We paid 50m for him so I expect him to play at Walkers level. He's not fit to lace Walkers boots.

Mendy is so bad that most of the time Pep prefers to play a converted Midfielder or Right Back ahead of him.

Mendy is not good enough for our squad.

Good result.

couple of observations.

- wolves are dirty twats, and cheated for those soft bookings
- Mendy is awful
- Ake looked great
- Stones is still shite
- Refs hate us
- Sky hate us
- Rodri was like a headless chicken H2
- Fern still has it at DM
- Jesus worked his cock off all game

carry on

Clearly see on the reply he was offside. VAR would have ruled out if he'd gone on to score.

Ive just watched it back and it’s very close if he is. Even so though, the point was absolutely right, Stones had lost him

I thought Stones had a good game still though.

To do that with no pre season and a brand new centre back making a debut is very good. The pressure as well with the added knowledge of what wolves did to us last season.
Yes we ran out of steam in the 2nd half but that showed we have a bit of steel to us again.

Positives
Fitness of kdb, jesus, foden
Sterling with a composed assist
Foden will get close to 20 goals for the season
Ake is a great deputy for Lapworth
Stones looks to be more confident
Ferna still got it in midfield
The pressing is back

Negatives
3 pathetic yellow cards no chance any of them were yellows.
Mendy looked decent but had a bad 5 mins.
Pep not making subs for tired players.

Looking good considering no kun, bernado, laporte, cancelo, mahrez and gundogan. Also hopefully 1 or 2 new signings.
