You mean Mendy, in his first game since last season, looks like he's running in treacle after 70 minutes against the fastest winger in the league who's had 5 games and a preseason to get up to speed?

No? Surely not?

The bloke is absolutely gassed, as you'd expect. He's walking a tight rope because the referee gave an absolutely bullshit yellow, and he's digging deep to play the full 90 because both of our other LB options are injured.

How about holding off on coming to the transfer forum to slag him off mid-game? Honestly some of you lot are real pricks towards our players.
I don’t want to slag him off but when he’s our only left back and not playing well and it’s a position of weakness for us then maybe we should look at someone to back that up. It’s also not as if these are problems exclusive to this season because of covid too

Koundé and LB (we need another LB regardless of how Mendy performs, thought he was OK) then are set.
I’d agree that he was alright but I’m still worried that he’ll have a drop in form and pick up an injury. Stones looked solid which made me feel more at ease with the cb position but do agree that Koundé or Koulibaly is needed

Oh come on. Somehow everyone else managed to look fine. Somehow Bloody sterling didn't get bullied in terms of physicality as much as him! It's not that he's gassed, he's just extremely slow, and it won't happen just against Adama Traore.

Yeah, it's almost as if Sterling, Rodri, Aké, Walker, Stones, Torres, Foden and co all had a pair of international games to use as a preseason isn't it?

Amazing that.

First half, he was completely on top of Traore every time he tried to go down the wing. Then the lack of preseason kicked in.

It is okay to criticise players who we think weren’t playing well surely? His lack of pace was mentioned which funnily enough is quite important in our system and how high we play. His ability is there but physically he’s a shadow of his former self

It's stupid to think players aren't playing well when they're in the middle of putting in an absolutely heroic shift for the team, playing at a massive fitness disadvantage for 90 minutes because we've got no one else, against the oppositions best player, and a job made 10x harder by the referee shafting him with a terrible decision.

Yes, getting skinned by Traore, and he couldn't dive in or get tight and make tackles, that doesn't mean he was playing badly. Playing badly would be doing what Zinchenko or Delph would have done in that situation - gotten sent off and left us a man down.
