Running thread

been off from running with issues around the groin/hip area for 2 weeks (adamant its a muscle tear or hernia)

thought to myself this resting isnt working that the doctors have advised nor are the stronger painkillers so last two nights done 5-6k running around.

Aching again and can feel the pain in my hip area but feel i need to just go run.
Take your time mate, only make it worse, rest it and keep applying ice or get ice baths.

I’ve been doing Maffetone running for 2.5 months now.

Ran 10km today with an average heart rate of 134Bpm at 5.50 pace. I decided to “sprint” the last km to see if all this “aerobic engine” stuff has actually made a difference to my ability to run quickly (it’s definitely made a difference in shedding body fat) and was pleased to run the final km in 4.02 minutes which is really good for me - especially after running 9km. Well chuffed with that :)

It’s amazing the difference it makes isn’t it??
I made fantastic progress but not run for two weeks now due to Covid so going to have to see what effect that’s had when I return!

A friend has been informally coaching me. He's pushing me to do 45 mins by Christmas. He's into tough love and all that but I've told him to fuck off!
I like the sense of achievement when you get a new PB but I tend to pay the price for fast runs. Currently having a week off to get over some niggles.

Just ran past Kevin De Bruyne in Didsbury village.
He nodded on of course.

Haven't ran in a while but managed a 4:47 /Km pace over 5k....not too bad but feel a tan clunky.

Finish it first then worry about times after although I Want to do it as close to 6.5 hours as possible, expect it to be nearer to 7 but fingers crossed and all going well I could be under 6.5 hours.
Finished in 6:41. Slowest half marathon I’ve ever ran in 2:11 but was absolutely fucked after the bike ride as it was windy as fuck, and as for the lake... it was like swimming in the arctic circle!!!

Sounds like a decent time to me. A half iron man? The half marathon after the cycle and swim cannot be compared with a normal HM. Well done.

Longest run I've ever done today. Slow pace albeit. 18 miles in 3 Hours 5 mins (10 mins 15 per mile). Chuffed as I my legs gave in last week when attempting the same distance and falling 4 miles short.
Next target 20 miles. I'm fine fitness wise but my aching 40 year old legs are being pushed to the limits
Thought I'd celebrate with a few beers and watching City, only for City to bleeding spoil the day

Well sounds like you’ve ran past and overlapped Kevin De Bruyne more than Mendy has this weekend.

Struggled to get under an hour for 10k for ages, had that coffee before running you guys recommended and did 56.21 a month ago. Not been able to train as well since as had some family stuff going on that's now ok. Did a couple of 4/5k's, and an 8k over the last two weeks before hitting another 10k this weekend. Coffee again: 56:58.. I know it's likely I've given my body much needed rest and done more work on speed from the smaller runs, but I'm just going to say coffee is the reason :P Cheers all.
