Leicester City (H) Post Match Thread

Our attack is incredibly static. Perfect example is the one time mahrez had a break and a nice long pass to him, he didn’t hve the pace to beat his man, slowed up, and the thing went bust. We no longer use pace on the wings and it’s a huge problem.

Instead we tuck the wingers in and rely on navas-worthy crosses from mendy to 5 foot tall people. Anyone notice that mendy is almost always open to receive the ball? Maybe it’s because that’s what defenses want.

Most worrisome is that the dullness is rubbing off on the sharp tools we do possess. Kdb had sterling making a long run through the middle and didn’t release him. Safe ball to the wing instead, everyone then trots up and settles in. Leicester gets set. Empty possession ensues.

We’re losing the habit of a killer instinct. We don’t genuinely attack anymore. We used to look like sharks and predators routinely. Now we get a few 4-0 wins every couple months in relatively meaningless matches and people are sated just enough to ignore the new routine of static predictable passes across a mind-numbing umbrella arc sitting atop of the 18 yard box.

I really don’t think these players enjoy it and I don’t blame them.

no just find this place funny that a respected poster like Tolmie can basically say what I said a hour earlier and not receive abuse ..

seems status is more important then content or opinion on this message board

Everyone knows he's a rag, you're being accused of being a dipper!

Clearly City had a lot of selection problems going into the game. What is the point of generalising from that game. You have to wait a little to assess the team particularly when there are so many injuries.

Anyone feel like we're missing Sergio? I mean obviously we're missing his goals, but I feel like it's not the same without him being there, constantly looking hungry. Just feels like his presence makes us feel more confident and threatening, and we're missing that.

The neglect of any long term planning is fucking criminal.

Tixi has had a free lunch on the back of Mancini signings.

For the last 4 seasons we all knew what was needed, except for this Clown.

We were once at a point where we needed to replace just 1 player every transfer window.

1 player became 2 players, glaring inadequacies continuously not addressed.

Now we are at a point where we need so many fucking players for a multitude of different positions it is unreal.

How has it got to this ?

wasn't he brought in to make sure this never happened ?

We fucked about in this transfer window over Messi.Seems Tixi would have had no problem mustering £100 000 000 to give to his true love Barcelona for a man who is 34.

Yet continuously haggles over every other player.

Every other Club knows we have the cash because we went after Messi ffs.

Honeymoon is over now Tixi,no more free lunches on Mancini signings. His players are all gone. Now you have to earn your money.

Who would you bring in to replace Txiki?

Who gives a fuck if he scores one screamer. He can’t do his job. Come good?? Do me a favour his issue is pace and he isn’t getting any from anywhere.
This 100 %

He is a slow one dimensional player.

Have seen enough of him to make up my mind.

We should try putting blinkers on him so he can only pass forward.

We went to shit after fernandinho went off today.

Just like went to shit last season when we moved Fernandinho from holding midfielder in to the back 4.We had to play Rodri instead of fernandinho ,the only reason being he was seen as fernandinho long term successor, yet fernandinho was 100% a better player. We would have been much closer to the Candle waivers lastseason if Pep would have admitted his mistake.I just dont think Pep sees the game like us fans,i think he goes off possesion Stats, completed passes. etc.Rodri stas probally look out of this world, except it is all safe uncreative passing

No idea.

Roberto was doing really well with our transfers.

Seem to remember him wanting Van Persie, and ending up with Jack Rodwell

I just think the state of our side right now is 100% down to him.

We are down to just 34 year old injured Aguero up front. That is criminal. We never even replaced Dzeko.

His job was supposed to be to prevent us ever needing a huge rebuild, and transitional season regardless off the manager. He should have been ahead of the game. That was his job.

Look at the state of us ?

The only saving grace yesterday was I was able to leave the ground early, went for a shit with 15 minutes to go and sat there reading one of my collection of toilet reading books .... yesterday’s choice being .... I, Partridge
Now that’s something you couldn’t do at the Etihad.
Anticipating being the most well read city fan in the Bridge come Christmas

Roberto didn't sign Kompany for starters. With van Persie we had both Dzeko and Balotelli already at the club. De Rossi didn't want to leave Roma. Yaya was partly down to his brother (who was signed by Hughes). Silva was identified by Hughes, Real Madrid passed on him for some reason and we took full advantage of that.

What I’m talking about is not a recent development. Moreover, selection problems via injury have become a persistent reality for us for some reason...so we may want to develop a system that accommodates them.

This is on Pep - play Garcia when he knows he will probably score a self-goal before defending one. Well he let two through today to kill the game.
Again Pep either does not know about rule changes or did a lousy job of communicating to his defenders to not touch opposition in penalty box.

The only possible silver lining is if it wakes us up as a club.

I'm sorry but Mendy should never play for us again. You can't go into PL games against top opposition with essentially 10 men.

Rodri also needs to be dropped. It's not an effort thing but Rodri is a sad indictment of our poor recruitment in recent years. How can you have the prototype in Fernandinho and decide to go for a player that is the complete opposite in terms of profile. We consistently lose to counter attacking teams because, once they beat our first press, Rodri is so easily bypassed it's a joke.

The only way we can have a legitimate challenge to the league is if we're ruthless now until the end of the season. Buy a LB like Tagliofico or Grimaldo and please bring back Douglas Luiz. This team needs some new blood and players that will actually push this team forward because the mentality displayed over the past season has been disgraceful.

Zero ability to break down or get in behind a well organised defensive system. Key players like Sane would often break down opposition defence with individual brilliance - hope to see this from Torres in the future. Nobody looked a threat and the only threat looked to come from some De Bruyne magic. Lacked intensity and exposed defensively way too regularly. Mendy doesn’t deserve a place in league games. Ederson needs to step up too - can’t remember his last penalty save. One word to describe the game - diabolical.

One of the main drivers of sustained success is continual improvement and that can come from within or by improving the quality of your key operators.

Its always good to have a good working relationship within all at a club but given human frailty that is not always possible.

if Txiki is past his used by date then you have to replace him with a person who has the will and ability to do better and that means achieving better outcomes.

Lets be honest we are now in a position where we really have to make every transfer count.

We need improvement in every line and if Txiki can't do that then we get someone who can.

Complacency is toxic of the worst kind.

Txiki isn't the only person involved with the transfers and it doesn't help that the targets aren't willing to sign for City in the first place or is beyond the price the club is willing to pay for the player. If that is the case then blame Khaldoon as well. It didn't help with the whole FFP proceedings looming over the club.

Pep mentioned multiple time how anxious and nervous the players got.

2nd league game, we play at home, vs Leicester City, and players get extremely anxious/nervous even after dominating possession for 30 minutes and Leicester not creating any kind of chance until the first pen.

Something is fucking wrong with the mentality if seasoned pros get so nervous in a game like this.

Imagine how nervous they might have been vs Lyon where stakes were so much higher than in latest game. How nervous
Pep must have been t change his tactics completely for Lyon and have it backfired...

They should be fearless lions or sharks not nervous dogs.

They dont know what to do on the pitch , how to break down defences that dont give us easy chances, they absolutely dont know how to defend counters from to front, not mentioning at the back while midfield is bypassed pretty much like hot knife through the butter, this makes them anxious and nervous.
Opponents get a feeling for our anxious play and that makes them even more determined to punish us and they do it a lot.

This is a mentality thing that stems from our tactics imo. Very risky high line defence with wrong personnel and shit pressing with players not working hard enough or with players not enough pace. Recipe for a disaster really. Players get nervous middle of game. This is not a one off...

Honestly if things wont change tactically I expect more of the same losses, not losing 5-2, but losing with very same pattern in terms of issues on midfield, creating/converting clear chances and conceding 2 goals from every 3 shots conceded (that are on target) on average.

Putting Ruben Dias in CB can change it a bit and help a bit (unless he needs a full first season to adapt to new tactics, new country, new league, which happens to many of our signings) but it wont solve midfield issues and other off the ball issues, defending from the front etc.

That is down to lack of on field leadership. A captain/team leader isn't just in charge of the coin toss
