Comparing the Colston statue and a holocaust memorial in that way is laughable. A more apt comparison would be if a statue of Hitler was being constructed.

You misunderstand.

I'm personally in favour of the Holocaust memorial but that is beside the point, the project has powerful forces behind it, that is simply a fact and it commemorates something this country had no direct responsibility for, so the establishment is comfortable with it.

Colston is a different matter, he played a prominent part in something this country was very much directly responsible for.

His statue was constructed in 1895, long after his death, and as was the fashion his slavery ties were ignored in favour of his philanthropy.

Colston's removal is loudly condemned by the establishment, there are no powerful forces defending his removal.

It's easy to condemn other peoples wickedness, a little less easy to condemn ones own.

It came after the party leader, Sir Keir Starmer, pledged to set up an independent disciplinary process following the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) anti-Semitism report, which found Labour responsible for "unlawful acts".

In response to the report, the Campaign Against Anti-Semitism (CAA), which formally referred the party to the EHRC two years ago, submitted complaints against 15 sitting Labour MPs.

I suspect Starmer will find he was standing rather too close to the fan and when the shit hit it. It seems even his full acceptance of the report and fairly firm words/ commitment to change were not enough. First they came for corbyn, then they came for Rayner....

He thought he'd given the CAA enough, a cringe-worthy mea culpa, a few sacrificial lambs, including his predecessors scalp, the walk of shame for 500,000 Labour Party members.

I have condemned racism at every opportunity, I have said repeatedly there is no place for it in society. I will not apologise for something I have no part in, I have not been antisemitic, I will never be antisemitic and I repeat I am against all forms of discrimination. I am also against what appears to be a witch hunt by the CAA, who are not just attacking Labour politicians but politicians of other parties too on what looks like plainly ridiculous charges. They accused Kaufman of being antisemitic because of what he said under Parliamentary privilige. What are they trying to do, destroy our democracy. Is it really antisemitic to criticise the Israeli government? Because if it is that means they can act with impunity and that puts them on a level with dictatorships around the world who also act with impunity. Some of the charges the CAA are making don't even have dates for the alleged transgressions.

The leaked Labour report revealed how the Livingstone case was subject to delays purely to discredit the leadership. How many others? Where's the condemnation of the wing of the party that weaponised a serious issue such as anti-Semitism for factional reasons?

Brushed under the carpet so it doesn't upset Keith's applecart now he has seized power. I don't think the real truth behind it will ever fully come out because a lot of people cant afford it to. The way Keith quickly paid people off said to me there are a lot of people with a lot to hide , they didn't care who they upset, who they attacked, who they aggrieved as long as they got there way. Maybe they did weaponise antisemitism, but you can bet your house that it will never be proven.

I don't think it's a maybe and the rest of your post explains why. The idea that Labour can now reclaim it's moral high ground as a truly anti-racist party with a machine that used a serious issue as a political football to purge the left is laughable.
