I think it is that people prefer to vote for something rather than against something. It seems like that basic 2016 lesson keeps being forgotten over and over again by those claiming to be left of centre. Not only that, but something looking like a forgone conclusion appears to inspire the ‘losers’ to go out more so than the ‘winners’.

Looks like Biden has won looking at the map and the percentages of votes left to count. Trump will likely take Georgia, North Carolina and in my opinion he might eek out Pennsylvania - I can only see Biden taking the rest. Real close one if that’s the case.

I've maintained Penn and Georgia are likely to go Blue. I was more convinced on them then I was MI and WI

The NYT is a bit more up to date with Trump 27,000 ahead and about 700,000 votes still to be counted which are expected to favour Biden by about 70 to 30, so the final result if that's correct will be a Biden majority of about 250,000.

Think Trump "peaked" when he did his rant, and he knew it, that's why he did it. His polling people will have known who was left to vote and what that meant

Why is it a sign that confidence in politics and politicians is broken as opposed to a sign that a lot of voters have confidence in the ideas/the politicians they’re voting for?

The biggest problem will be when it's someone cleverer, more insidious, presentable and more machevellian than Trump. Perhaps who will push the "we need to spread the American Dream" line. Then you've got a more powerful version of Hitler, with nukes.

AP are reporting 94% of the votes have been counted for Georgia and Trump has a lead of over a million votes there - been working this morning so not been able to keep up as I would have liked, is there a reason that you’re optimistic?
