General Videogame Thread

Finished Gears 5 last night. Graphics on the Series X are excellent and for the most part really enjoyed it.
would add that the bit at the end where you have to choose who to save out of JD and Del was the most pointless fucking thing ever. It was lacking any impact to the point where I wish there was a button that said "neither"

I've been gaming a 144hz/165hz monitor for the past year (PC) and going back to 60hz gaming feels jarring.

I've been playing Ori 2 on a 4K TV (60hz) and last night I tried it on PC (165hz) and couldn't really tell the difference. It is a slow moving side scroller though and if it played like Sonic the Hedgehog i'm sure the difference between refresh rates would show.

The Star Wars Fallen Order game seems cool, even if I am absolutely awful at it! Timing blocking for parry/ripostes has never been my video gaming strength, but I will have to get a lot better at it I think! Always been more of a dodger

Tip. Play it a bit easier than you would usually. I got so tired of retreading tonnes of ground that i nearly gave up. I didn't even feel like i was fairly dying either. Ive played plenty of tough games so its not a 'get good' scenario, its just a slightly unfair game at times. Its a lot more enjoyable when you can make regular forward momentum.

Interesting, I did feel as though the camera is killing me as often as my bad play. At the moment I am finding it a bit frustrating, but also not crazy about how many off shoots and "wrong ways" there are to go so early, that you know you should go down for loot and that, but at the same time I'm not nearly got the hang of the game enough yet to be doing them. Feel as though it's thrown me in at the deep end a bit and it has, as you say, led to a bit of frustrating slog instead of fast faced fun. (an issue with a lot of games lately tbf, or maybe just a problem with how I play games and hate missing things!)

I probably should aim for that regular forwards momentum and not worry about missing out on the side stuff as most of it seems pretty pointless anyway (memories worth tiny amounts of XP and sometimes customizable lightsaber bits that don't seem to have any actual purpose). It's the completionist in me though, you have to go all the wrong ways before you go the right way!

I've been sinking some spare hours in to replaying Fallout 4 since the days got shorter. It's on PS Now so when the TV is commandeered I fire it up on the laptop.

Weirdly I'm enjoying it far more second time around. Was a bit of a case of filling time until the PS5 gets delivered next week but will probably keep playing on regardless - it's such an amazing game.

Lack of save points I’m finding really annoying. You make some good progress and without getting any chance to save your progress something happens and I’m dead and right back to where I last saved. Enjoying it on the whole but that is a real gripe.

Yeah that's what bugged me. Rarely felt like it was my fault too, just a bit of a janky game. Trust me, make it one setting easier and it's loads more fun. Bit of a challenge, but you actually make progression and don't spend a whole evening fighting some annoying bug in the same place. This is coming from someone who completed The Last of Us on grounded mode, so I do like a challenge! Just not when it feels unbalanced.

Not a completist, but I do enjoy collecting trophies that are reasonable to get, and Ive just got my Last of Us 2 platinum. Only the third Ive ever got along with Skyrim and Until Dawn.

I have given up on getting a PS5 this year. Walmart had 4 slots of stocks at different times yesterday here in the US and I tried everything but the stock didn't even last a minute. Depressing. Worst thing is people who bought the consoles are selling for absurd prices on e-bay to make profits. Cunts the lot of them. I don't know why it's not illegal since they are selling for more than the maximum retail price.

I’ll be getting the improved small ps5 in 2 years can’t be arsed with a grammar phone side me tv.
I’ve read that we may not see traditional redesigns this gen because we’re reaching a point of diminishing returns in terms of node size etc. Xbox’s lead architect has reaffirmed this by saying they needed the Series S as we may not be seeing price reductions as we have in the past. I think Sony desperately need a redesign though because this thing is giant. Most of the PS5 is the heat sink though, so they could possibly come up with an alternative cooling solution or go with a split motherboard like Xbox did.

Or, if the Series S is a success, we might see a PS5 lite with half the power? I’d grab one if it had a small form factor and retailed for £299.

Spent all last night trying to connect to Call Of Duty Servers, gave up and went to bed!
The campaign mode is my guilty pleasure.
