January Transfer Window Its very quiet..or is it?

As above all of these concerns have been addressed multiple times by many posters in the messi thread and the summer It's Quiet thread. Very boring to have to keep going over the same tired old ground of "but he's old and expensive and doesn't run". It's all daft.

but he is old (comparatively), he will be expensive (wages, influence on other players expectations), and he runs when he wants to. Discussing these points however many times on a football forum doesn't make them any less valid. It's also not beyond reason to identify a potential disruptive influence on squad morale, though equally it could benefit same.

I'm also not convinced how much impact he will have on club finances. Without doubt his image rights will be his own

If we had had a forward line in 2011, including , Messi and Aguero, i would have been in dreamland, if we start the 2021 season with those two as starters, i am less convinced.
Your economic argument that Messi, will make us rich, will hardly be backed up by Barcelona, they have not a pot to piss in. He may help increase revenue, in the short term but will not make us rich.
You did not answer my question to you re your watching of Spanish football this season. You did like a post that suggested Messi will suddenly start running if he joins City, which made an idiot smile)

As explained previously all of this stuff is exhaustively covered elsewhere on the board and has been for months. I'm not writing essays again for people who can't be arsed to read the threads, merely expressing frustration with the stubbornness of idiots.

So have you watched him for Barca this season?

I suggested he may work harder, which is perfectly reasonable to assume.
I’m not stating as a fact he will or he won’t. I was merely pointing out you can’t be sure either way.
He’s capable of running and he’s certainly a professional. If Pep (who knows him better than you or I) trusts that he will do what’s asked then who are either of us two to say how he will perform.

It’s a bit silly to turn down a player that can pass and finish better than most players on the planet as your a bit worried he won’t run about enough to justify his wages. If the club feel they can afford him and see value then lets go for it.
If he doesn’t work out then it’s not like he’s on a 6 year contract we can’t get rid off. Its a 2 year deal which i suspect will be very well offset by new sponsors.

You discuss the potential benefits well

Have you been watching him play for Barca, this season so far?
I shall ask you the same questions, what position is he playing, how are his performances, where do you see him playing?, Aguero and Messi, in the forward line, do you think it will be a formidable partnership.

Seen him a few times, he's playing from a deeper role and still putting inch perfect passes through to the forwards, still taking on players for fun and still creating plenty of space for the runners by attracting the attention of several Defenders.
He isn't running as much because he doesn't need to. In short, he's playing at a higher level than every single one of ours so far, but then our best player has been pretty awful since the start of the season.
I doubt Messi and Aguero will be a partnership at all. They could be in the same line up of course but I doubt it'd be as a two up front.

Thanks for that, i usually spend part of the invierno there so watch plenty of matches, obviously not this year.
I had read reports of him not being particularly influential , and the results have not been very good.
I have been lucky to see him live on plenty of occasions in the past, definitely the best I have ever seen.

Yeah the team in general have struggled, mate. He looks like he’s playing in 2nd gear a lot of the time but I don’t think it’s age related or him losing any of his ability, just the whole malaise that the club is currently suffering from.
It’s why I think he needs a new challenge and why I think he’s looking for one. His career will likely peter out with nothing else to show for it if he stays.
A new club will invigorate him and I’d guess we would get the proverbial Indian summer from him.

I’m not going to lie and say Iv watched every minute but Iv seen Barca a few times this year.

He’s been playing more central and he’s looked alright, he’s playing in a poor Barca team and you can see the frustration at times.
He’s not been vintage Messi but it feels more like the team as a whole feels deflated and arnt playing with much freedom.

I’m not overly worried about how he’s playing at this moment, it’s Messi and we all know what ability he has, the question is can we find away to get it out of him.

Funny enough Iv seen Messi and Sergio for Argentina and always thought it never looked right. However you often see players not look great on international duty but you don’t get the chance to see how it would work if they got to train together every day under a manger had chance to find a system that suits.

Would you really not be willing to take a chance on a player that if you could unlock his full potential then you have the best player in the world??
The chances of finding the “next Messi” are slim, the chance of getting two good years out of the actual Messi are infinitely higher.

Looks like we are signing a short term solution to the striker position in January i wonder who we sign

I saw this the other day and couldn’t think of a single striker that I thought could make a difference who might be available.

Dres Mertins? Don’t know about his current situation but he’s been looking at moving on in the past few years.

Immobile is 30 now and still scores goals, can’t see Lazio selling though.

Who else is there that could be considered short term that’s good enough?

I say we go to big either this window or summer either pre euros (so the prices aren't hugely inflated) or we will be having our pants pulled down. For mediocre players. Again.

LB - Digne
CB - Uppemencano
DMF - not a clue. Partey looked ideal (as did Rodri)
CMF - We're OK here. I dont like Ilkay but I see with legs around him he's a terrific player, needs options from players ala David Silva and legs like 28/29 year old Fernandinho around him.
AMF - like has been said - Grealish IS the best option.
Forward - Martinez or Dybala, Messi, Haaland. Maybe blood Braff?

Throw the kitchen sink at it. We've not rocked the market for years. Just do it. Use January and summer to put this in place, Pep signs his extension and rebuild part 3/4/5 comes into fruition. If we buy these kind of players after a storming Euros or we buy the next flash in the pan International star (there's been a few, Poborsky to name one ) after a decent euros we pay through the nose.

Not getting why we would buy a centre back (Uppermaco) we are well stocked there
I reckon we need a left back striker and midfield player first .with maybe the striker being the priority
We can do it for free as well .Messi and Alaba

Left back def needed, and if there is a high quality striker we will go for them but suspect we might hold on for a year yet before bringing in a young talent to track behind the current pair

We don't need anyone for the first time on record. You could argue with Pep on the matter of his DM options but ultimately all is pretty balanced now..

I like the look of Zakaria for DM.
