That won’t be what gets him in the team in his best position (central) under Pep. He’d be better playing it safe for the majority of games unlike the Leeds and Porto games otherwise Pep will think he’s not up to playing centrally yet. One of Silva’s greatest strengths was actually playing it safe the majority of games and was a reason he could dictate games so well. Prime Toure also rarely wasted the ball. KDB on the other hand rolls the dice most of the time he has it and will often give it away but will always produce great passes/assists to make it worth while. Big ask to have 2 centrally constantly doing that though especially for Pep.

It's doing it in the right areas. Dave in his pomp was a master of slow and safe when there was nothing on, build a passage of play down the left, upping the tempo but still keeping it safe and then at the right moment releasing the through ball or making the run for the assist. Phil has the attributes it just needs to come together consistently.

DS did not do what Foden does when he tries to toe the line. He had a creative intent to every touch & played safe when there was nothing on.

You can't do that facing backwards.

I think his game has been restricted with us so far because he's desperate to show Pep that he can do as he's told.
That will change over time as he cements his place and becomes more comfortable and confident.
We have an absolute top notch talent who will be lauded as our best ever when he hangs up his boots. He really can be that good.

Huge talent, but we still don't know what's his position in the club..

Left Winger ? Right Winger ? Left AM ? Right AM ? False 9 ?

I think his best position is Right AM - but that's where DeBruyne plays right now..

So until then - he should play as a Right Winger..

You'd think that Foden is wasteful in possession going off some of the comments in here lately. Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think there's much evidence for it, outside of the Olympiakos game. The guy's an absolute gem.

The problem with that is our RW stays wide, and isnt afforded the freedom to drift centrally that much, because Walker isnt used in a wide role. And centrally is Phil's strength.

The 343 england used was actually quite perfect for him, and many of England's players like Grealish and Sancho. They let Mount play in the midfield 2 to ensure they still had 4 attackers on as well.

When Gareth plays 2 DMs that's when Englands 343 sucks.

KdB can play this role for us too btw, but he can also play further forward as well.

The nice thing about Phil is that there is virtually no chance he leaves our club , he is a blue through and through and we will be lucky enough to witness his progress to one of the best English players in the next decade or more. When Paul Lakes's career was cut short we were robbed of a brilliant footballer , watching Foden every week eases that pain, he is a joy to watch and the only other player in a blue shirt at 20 years old as good as him were Colin Bell and Paul Lake i couldnt give him higher praise.

He's actually far less wasteful than Kev. Although Kev does try to play passes that are on the edge of impossible, so I don't hold it against him that he loses the ball. That's Kev's game. Phil rarely loses possession for us, even if he has to play the short pass to ensure that we keep it.

Needs to start against Spuds , he will be brimming with confidence after the Engerrrrland game , see how the very overrated Harry Winks deals with him, Foden at his best is unplayable just need Pep to give him the freedom of the park and unleash him , and he will tear the best teams apart
