Spurs (A) - Post-Match Thread

Possession...I don't want even to comment on it
10 corners to their 0, yes nil
22 shots to their 3, even 5-2 going to goal
They had the least number of counter-attacking attempts in the last 5 years, but I would say even going further back, when playing us
Made so many right positional moves including moving into their box.....AND THEN!!!!!!!!!

We've failed tonight where we've been failing for the last 15 months, quite a few players are just gone when it comes to their form and Pep - fortunately for him - have no more hair to lose about this one. There is just to much of coincidence Arteta leaving and players dropping off catastrophically.
Bernardo is gone, he metamorphosed from an excellent utility attacking player to a luxury player and now into full formed redundant player. His 'results on the pitch' value is like 5 mil at best.
Mahrez is currently on the second stage of the same cycle, he is still trying at least, but I see no remedy there
KdB is playing with this puzzled look on his face of a player in search for his long lost form, 'where, why, how......"
Raheem is following him closely rummaging through the shatters of his form
Aguero.......who?
Jesus...I am just afraid he is closer to another injury than another goal trying so hard at everything and considering his injury and effort I might be hard on him
The rest are just followers sinking into this pool of mediocrity.

I know he wont say this, but I would like him to say in the after after match presser, 'we did everything right to the final ball and that's my job done, but my players proved to me they are shit right now and I am not sure what to do about it.'

4 points behind Southampton just about sums us up this season. Everyone knows Mahrez is offering very little but Pep is the guy picking the team, dropping Foden always seems to be his easy option. I actually thought our defense was looking better but today we looked like last season , Ederson was shocking today.

If I was Messi Id stay where I was

I don't understand when people continue to say this. What do you want Pep to do, if a team sits back and puts 10 in their half, what is the alternative method of playing that you suggest to get passed that? Spurs were always going to play that way against us, and it really comes down to who scores first. Today they did, next time it'll be us and the result will be different.

Draw them out. They are at home. If they don’t want to push up let’s take the point and nil nil and thank you very much.
We are so predictable.

Reasons to be cheerful, parts one, two, three.
1. twenty eight more points and we‘re safe.
2. see one.
3. see two.

Performances haven’t been good enough I agree , just get fed up with the “Pep out” brigade ,,, I wonder how long some of them have been supporting City ... Maybe I’m angry and just fancy a row ;)
People are calling a spade a spade. We are 10th, soon to be 11th, on merit. It’s not surprising people aren’t happy with that and that they might question the manager. Any other manager would be under serious pressure right now. You also have to remember it isn’t just this season. It’s over a year now that we’ve been nowhere near good enough.

When Pep first got here he had a dazzling range of tactics to bamboozle opponents ,now its all gone he's bankrupt of ideas.
Perhaps the reason he extended was because Txixi wanted him there as a fall guy. If it goes tits up he points the finger at Pep .

Panel have just hit the nail on the head regarding Rodri

He is a passenger and not what is needed for a position that is paramount for how we play both attacking and defending

Fernandinho's replacement he is not

We can’t moan about these teams sitting behind the ball and countering as that’s what they do to win the game and Jose is a master at getting result in a game . The var decision was shit but it’s happening every week to other teams so no point in moaning about it but what really annoys me is when we are clearly not working with the 11 on the pitch but pep will not change it until it’s over and this happens time after time which is not acceptable. Like to see more of steffen if I’m honest as just about every time we have a shot against it goes in. But I’ll tell you one thing if we think that 34 year old messi is the answer to our problems then we have major issues moving forward . Someone said the other day that we don’t much of a rebuild we’ll do they still think that after this shit but hey ho at least pep has signed a new contract so all is not bad .

Totally agree.

We need to recognise that we’re in bad form before this really spirals.

Every player needs to fight for the shirt now. Nothing less than 110% aggression and commitment.
Spot on. And people can (quite rightly say) its too early for that kind of talk but they clearly don't understand the psychological disadvantage we now face and if that becomes embedded too deeply it will have consequences for the Christmas/Jan period which we all know is the hardest. I'll concede to the lack of pre-season, the injuries, the threat we all face in the real world but its the lack of grit on the pitch that I just can't stomach. Ive seen enough losses in my many years but the ones where we went down with a fight have always been the ones that made me truly appreciate being a City fan. Tonight has been a world away from that feeling. Tomorrow I'll be right but to say that performance wasn't a concern would be negligence as a long suffering Blue.

Having looked at the movement of the ball on the handball, I'm not sure when the contact with the arm came. Watch the ball, in the first change of direction it moves up, then outwards suggesting it hit the knee first. That said, it hit the arm at some point, what part of the arm though? The rules aren't clear enough, obviously.

I knew Dean was going to rule that out no matter what he saw though.
His right arm was moving towards the ball inviting a handball call even if it missed his bicep by a mm.

A wake-up call for Pep,the right flank,if you play Mahrez you get nothing, zilch, zero so you have Walker flogging his guts out to try and inject pace, trouble is if we lose possession he is 70/90 yards out of position.Mahrez has provided nothing for his transfer fee,2/3 games a season .Now if Pep canNot see how little he adds to the team we are in trouble.Ferran &Sterling wingers,Jesus &Aguero attacking, two attacking midfielders Foden & Kevin.Pep is to blame for not making the substitutions earlier, bringing them on after we are two down is a mistake of which he makes to often,VAR once again against City,we should at least have had a look at the corner kick on 60 mins the incident was never repeated but I thought it was hand ball, clear and obvious it’s what VAR is for. Finally the ref was a superb addition to the Spurs squad. Now for a rather large whisky.Cheers.
