England hospital regions:

London Patients down 55 to 1493. Last wk was 1478. Ventilated down 3 to 256. Last wk was 261.

Midlands Patients down 30 to 2812. Last wk was 3122. Ventilated down 12 to 262. Last wk was 313.

NE & Yorks Patients down 91 to 2709. Last wk was 3006. Ventilated UP 1 to 186. Last wk was 230.

And North West does the best of all:

Patients down 142 to 2304. Last wk was 2632. It was 24 October last time there were less than this in hospital.

Ventilated down 8 to 186. Last wk was 228. It was 22 October last time there were fewer in the NW.

GM total today is 652 - down 157 on yesterday. 46% of the NW total.

Most other areas down too so that is why.

Highlights - numbers are starting to fall into a pattern like they did in the Summer after wave 1. With consistent numbers day to day from a few places.

For instance in past 3 days Oldham has had scores all within 7 of each other, Manchester all within a range of just 3 and Stockport a range of just 2.

Only Manchester has a 3 figure total.

All looking good at the moment but I am concerned that people will see the drop in deaths, drop in cases, a vaccine starting to be rolled out and the release from a full lockdown as being the green light to people thinking this is all but over.

We all need to keep the focus on doing the right things.

I honestly thought the UK could've handled things much better being an island, international travel was never banned as it was here.
A UK friend holidayed in Kefalonia only a few weeks ago.
I was amazed when he told me he was overseas on holiday.
There didn't seem to be any enforcement of hotel quarantine on people arriving from overseas either.
Just get off the plane and go home.

Plus all those big statue BLM demo's cant have helped.
Yeah the quarantine thing is probably the worst thing the UK has done. It doesn't help that Heathrow is a travel hub but even so.
The Skiing holiday brigade brigade will soon want to set off to bring a third wave back to the UK as they did for the first wave last February.
We just need to say NO this time.

Did anyone watch the program Surviving Covid last night on channel 4? It Followed the harrowing tales of Covid victims as they battled on for survival and it's still available to watch on Sky on catch up until January 1st. As immense a piece of filming as you could ever be embroiled with and containing scenes of a distressing nature. March 2020 and four patients lie in comas in the ICU of a south London hospital struck down by Covid-19 in Britain's first surge. This intimate film follows their stories over six months making for one hell of a journey.

I do fear the worst from what I have seen even here in sleepy little Nantwich. The Christmas frenzy is in full swing and the latest one I have heard more than a couple of women come out with " Will be fine if I wear a mask". As we head towards Christmas at least, the mask wearing could prove to be a bit of an own goal.

I found the claims today from Gavin Williamson rather embarrassing.

The UK didn't make that vaccine, all our people did was assess it and approve it quickly.

I am really struggling to see how we can claim to be better than other countries when it comes to dealing with this virus either?

The guy needs to learn how to do his job as education secretary first. Something he has failed at so far imo.

He was on LBC being interviewed by Nick Ferrari. I think he was just telling his supporters what they wanted to hear. Truth or accuracy has nothing to do with any of it, unfortunately.

Presumably the first of many tweets announcing lifting for many and not just hedge fund managers....

Italian deaths aren't good today. 953. The rest of Italy avoided the Lombardy charnel house last time but it's all across Italy this time. The tightly packed old style houses in the centres of Italian towns and cities make it so easy for the virus to spread.

I reckon most would agree with this. JVT comes across a lot more relatable with his analogies etc and it felt like Whitty and Vallance lost a bit of credibility with their graphs of hysteria back before lockdown 2.0

Approval of the Pfizer vaccine by the MHRA took eight working days. The Oxford/Astra Zeneca vaccine is about to be submitted for approval so it seems very likely that it will be approved week commencing 14th.

Even if its efficiency is at the lower end of what has been published to date (62%) it will still be hugely effective in vaccinating the non high risk groups. There are already stocks of this vaccine as it is manufactured in the UK & it is also currently being bulk manufactured in India for distribution outside of Europe. There is evidence (not proof) that it reduces transmission and if this is the case then it is an incredible bonus.

The outlook is looking infinitely brighter.

Watery eyes for sure, but poor Gill. A beyond the immense moment when Sama came home to his family and to witness the intensity and passion in his childrens eyes.

It's useless. I returned on a plane early Nov (work/residency paperwork, not a jolly) and was expecting to be asked for proof of filling in the return form, address etc, as the posters around the airport were stressing. Nothing. Then a few days later a phone call.

'Just checking you're aware you should be staying at home for 14 days'
'I am'
'And to confirm you are doing that'
'Yes'
'Ok thanks, bye'

That was it.

I did btw, but hardly a deterrent to anyone who wants to take the piss.
