COVID-19 — Coronavirus

I guess we all owe President Trump a vote of thanks. The In Vivo experiment he kindly set up at great risk to himself, family, friends an associates is turning up trumps. On the one hand we have the Biden camp, wearing masks and socially distancing and so far as we can tell him and his associates are getting on with whatever. Then we have Trump and supporters, who have been very sporting avoiding masks and social distancing dropping like flies. All hail the new martyrs.

Just noticed that the government are setting up various mass vaccination centres - the Etihad Campus being one of them. To me, it seems a risky move to get thousands of people together in one place. I'm looking forward to getting the vaccine (although there will be about 23 million people ahead of me in the queue), but I hope the government have thought of a good plan to prevent mass COVID outbreaks whilst people are queuing.
What do you do when the vaccine requires storage temperatures of -70 C. I'm sure that that has got something to do with the way it's being rolled out.

Gove suggested that this isn't being used as an "immunity passport". However Zahawi mentioned it's likely pubs, restaurants and other entertainment venues may request as proof. Pretty shit for those who are at the back of the queue..

It makes sense that people who have been vaccinated will be able to do more things but hopefully once the real mass vaccinations start all groups will be done rapidly. I'm in Tier 5 (65-70) but the huge initial boost will be when all care home residents and staff, front line NHS staff, at risk groups with pre existing conditions and the over 80s are done. The average age of people dying of Covid is 82 so once hospitalisations and deaths are dramatically reduced things should start getting back to normal very quickly.

Yes, though in Scotland we've been told they now have instructions on how it can be broken down into smaller cases and transported /stored, so it will be taken out to care homes from next Monday.

It can be stored up to five days in a fridge once it's been unpacked, so doing it via the GP network should not be an issue.

Just had the jab for 'flu two days ago. Never, ever had 'flu jabs, but I'm now in the age range where I get invited to do it by the health services, for free. Decided to do it so that I won't have to go to hospital or see a doctor for that, at least. Not feeling too wonderful for the last two days, frankly. Normal side effects, apparently. I wonder what the side effects of the Covid vaccine are going to be like.

One description from the pfizer trial said it was like a really bad hangover for a day.

Well it certainly isn’t an immunity passport.

I've had the flu jab around 20 years now and apart from a little soreness from the invasive area I've never had any side effects, your general feeling of not being "wonderful" may just be a coincidence or a small reaction to the jab, better that than full blown proper flu which is very debilitating. I had the pneumonia jab this year as well, if you get offered that take it.

I had the flu jab for the first time this year and I experienced absolutely no reaction to it. There was a small red dot on my upper arm when it was done and within a few days that had disappeared.

It's very disappointing to hear that the amount of traffic in London has increased sharply in the last week and is close to the levels recorded to this time last year. Goodness knows why as there is supposed to be no household mixing indoors, most of us should be wfh and entrance to pubs, cafes, restaurants is restricted. Where the hell are these people going? I hope they put us in Tier 3.

I live near dartford, Kent - the traffic is beyond crazy most days in and out of London and the Bridge, it was unbearable just before lockdown, since then we've had so many new estates gone up, thousands and thousands of new homes - i have no idea how the roads will cope once everything is fully lifted down here - quite simply, there is too many people.

Unfortunately, years of progress getting people to switch to public transport has probably been undone by this pandemic.

the burden on public transport may ease a little if more people can remain working from home, pre lockdown i was lucky just to fit on my train and that was from over an hour away, i still think we have a population crisis down here in kent/london

Had it 4/5 times now, never had a problem apart from about 3 years ago it gave me the sniffles for a day & if the nurse is a bit crap an ache in the muscle it goes into a couple oftimes.

Same here. I was a full time carer for 14 years so have had the flu jab (and pneumonia one every few years) for over 20 years. Including this year. A mildly sore arm for 24 hours maximum (or both arms when I had the two last year) is the most I have ever experienced. Though often not even that.

I think if you expect it to make you ill then it will because part of all illness is psychosomatic.

Its also a myth the flu jab can give you sniffles. It has no live virus in it. The thing is people have it at the exact time of year when sniffles are becoming common and you normally never give them a second thought as they last a day or so and go away. There are bound to be people who have the two things within days by complete coincidence and would have had the sniffles without the jab.

Now that all these Covid news stories are focusing minds this false belief will create many many more stories of coincidence = conspiracy from those who have read them this year I suspect.

Not saying this about any of the posters here. But we know it will happen because people are expecting it to out there - so it will and Twitter etc will be full of scare stories with little basis in reality.
